I've always done those myself. Also gives me a chance to look over the car.

If I lived in Manhattan I'd drive a Toyota. Or not drive at all.

Its the garaged early morning weekend car. Don't worry I'm not driving around manhattan, its for the windy drives outside the city, in the mountains.

Materials alone will top $200+ for quality fluids (do a search before asking please)

yup, these things are a bit thirsty. Just on sheer volume of liquids alone, it wont be a $30 cheap jiffy lube job...

For those of us that live on the other side of the world and have never been to Manhattan, why can't you drive a 308 around there?
Is it mainly because of gridlocked traffic?

As a dealer, Ferrari of Long Island isn't cheap.
However, they do offer specials from time to time. At the beginning of this driving season it was $100 for an oil change and full inspection for an older car. That's a heck of a deal. esp. for synthetic. They were also offering discounts on other service while you were there like coolant & brake fluid changes.

I don't know their prices, but I'd expect $300 for an oil change.
Call them up. They'll be happy to tell you.

If we searched for every question and answered it that way chatting here would halt, and no one would learn anything new. Besides search on F-chat is just about nonexistent.

It's simple. The price depends on the cost of materials (ie choice of oils etc) plus the hours of labour taken to do the work, at a specified hourly rate (ie choice of mechanic).

Just what I was thinking. The op's query was perfectly legitimate and hasn't really been answered.

The thread will quickly deteriorate into a wide ranging discussion on what oil to use, how long it takes to do an oil change and how much hourly rates should be. Hours of fun will ensue :D

If I am asked to do a synthetic oil change with $55 oil filter, synthetic gear box fluid change, BMW coolant change, and ATE brake fluid change for a 308/328/328/355, I would not do it for less than $500. $300 alone is to buy the materials. Count on at least a 4 hour labor.

And then, oh, by the way, can you check the brakes, the AC, the tire pressures, my hood shocks are bad, and the gas cap won't open... It quickly becomes a money losing proposition at $500.

    Yup.

As stated in another thread - we were all once "newbies" here. Many people have helped me when I asked a question that may have been repeated previously, but never an attitude.

We are a forum that serves a purpose to help fellow F-Car owners first - at least in my opinion. Search function here is worthless - whether a function of vBulletin or the board, it doesn't matter, it simply doesn't work.

I, for one, will always be tolerant of frequently asked questions. Keep asking away - if I can help, I will!

Ask away no issue but some things like "what oil is perfect" has been beat to death with nobody in agreement and like this thread the op still does not get the answer they were looking for.

I think Glassman had the right idea in a previous thread making oil a sticky, as well timing belts

A large % of us on here do our own service but the op stated that is not an option.

What I would estimate for your area and this is just ballpark using premium products.
Gear oil $180 including labor and gasket
Engine oil $150 w/filter and gasket
    Brake fluid $95
    Cooling system $160
    Total $585
Not too far from Yelcabs estimate

    I am not king sh!!t. It's a halo not a crown

Being my own mechanic your prices/costs interest me...
    Two 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 15W-50 @ $24.99 each
Four quarts of Mobil 1 75/90 gear lube @ $9.99 per quart
Three quarts of DOT 4 brake fluid @ 11.99 per quart
Three gallons of anti-freeze/coolant @ $17.99 per gallon
Three gallons of distilled water @ $.99 per gallon
    One Baldwin B253 oil filter @ $16.99
    Total $201.84
I can support these numbers with receipts (I keep them all because I do all of my service myself) from just a few weeks ago... You can't seriously be paying $55.00 for an oil filter?! Grainger has Baldwin B253 (WAY BETTER than Fram or UPI, Ferrari OEM) for $17.00. If you have a decent forklift/heavy truck supplier nearby, they have them in stock. I used to buy them two for $11.00 each. I can get everything but the DOT 4 brake fluid at Wallyworld and the foreign car parts store is about two more blocks up the street.
Really? No wonder everyone complains about the costs associated with owning a Ferrari...

    And then...

10 quarts of Mobil 1 from Oreilly is $80
5 quarts of RedLine Superlight Shockproof is $100
1 oil filter for a 348 is $55 at the dealer before taxes.
2 gallons of BMW blue coolant is $70
ATE Blue fluid, 3 bottles: $60

That is $365 before even a wrench is turned.
2 hours running around to get all the parts.
If you take it to a dealer who has to pay for rent, utilities, and a mechanic etc... it would have to be $500 just to break even. So, really he is doing it just to get you in the door to build a clientele for other business.

I can tell you what it would take me if I were going as fast as possible, more or less:

    oil/trans - 60mins
    brakes - 30-60mins
coolant - 60-120mins depending on any air trapped etc

So that is about ~4 hours labor plus the cost of parts.

Gridlock traffic, and roads that will absoltely destroy your car! Potholes that will destroy your car. Manhole caps that are exposed high enough to rip your exhaust off and smash your oil pan. its a nightmare. I drive it like a baby until i get on the highway out - which is fine because the car is all warmed up by that point and ready to GO!

You guys have been incredibly helpful here. I know labor and quirks for these cars tend to make things more expensive but the above info from everyone has given me a good ballpark estimate to negotiate!
