For some reason, Quora keeps showing up in my email. It is like a fly buzzing around. I can never swat it in time. However I saw this thread and found it to be a hoot. Just like FerrariChat, it is classic Internet, you know that place where everybody is an expert.

Those of us that are long term in Ferrari dealers are very amused buy those who imagine the piles of money being generated in them.

I had one tell me once, "Sell Ferraris; drive a Toyota. Sell Toyotas; drive a Ferrari."

Its like owning a winery in Napa valley. Its what you do with your money after you have made it.

The salesmen who are doing well are usually curbing cars.

Not enough for my previous sales person who recently removed from a Ferrari dealership to a Lambo dealership.
He’s an excellent salesperson, straightforward and honest (I know, it’s a rarity).
I’ll actually follow him to his next dealership.
It truly is about customer service.

You are absolutely right - My salesperson at my Ferrari dealer is the main reason I buy not only all the Ferrari's I own/have owned but also all the Porsche's I own/have owned - and I bought my Hellcat from Ferrari Fort Lauderdale on a TO/reference from him to the guy at FFL. I often joke (but not really a joke) that there is a McLaren/Lambo dealer one exit down but if I bought a Lambo or McLaren I would just wait until the Ferrari Dealer got one in and I could buy it from my guy. Like you, if he moved I would follow him - Rare but they are out there.

Per the post I have no idea what he makes and I am sure it is large feasts with period of famine but he seems to live a nice lifestyle and actually enjoy what he does.

    Cheers :)

Well, there is piles of money being generated in them, but where that money goes and who gets it is the amusing part you are referring to.

Yes, the demands placed on them are very expensive and the availability of a product to sell is not something that can be counted on or for the margins most imagine. .

I interviewed at Miller a few years ago (specifically for Ferrari).

Comp wasn't even discussed up front.

Most of the guys/gals, looked like they were making pretty good money, but no idea if they had draws, since I assume you aren't moving 10-15 cars a month.

No and thats the problem. You have a few who are retired and do it because its fun, a couple who are starving and will not be around long and 1 or 2 that are good, have stuck it out a long time, have developed a clientele who follow them, who probably never even come to the store. Those guys are moving most of the inventory.

It's not a single answer. For guys (I've never seen a Ferrari sales gal), who work for multi-line dealerships they have more opportunities. Those who work at Ferrari only stores (are there any left), you can only sell what you can sell. If I had to make a SWAG, I'd say low six-figures in today's world for an experienced salesman.

I bought my 458 from a "sales gal" at Cauley Ferrari. She is experienced and knowledgable about the cars and is great to work with. I think she has been at Cauley for a pretty long time. Works hard and is very honest and straightforward.

I wish I had a salesman like that .. I would gladly buy from him .. and hoped he made a bunch . I have bought maybe 18 Ferraris, a few new, mainly cause I never get an allocation which really irritates me. The old salesman who left and i still talk to occasionally but do not like the cars he sells treated me great and I got allocations of cars I wanted and some I didn't but he took very good care of me. The new guy does not..I have maybe bought 3 Ferraris in the last 18 months from 3 different dealers.. One thing that hurts is I do not live near a dealer living more that 200 miles away.. its to bad.. for me....but I get what I want more or less.

Thanks ... actually I have bought cars from about 6 or so Ferrari dealers from Beverly hills to FOW.. The thing about not being near is that sort of out of sight out of mind thing.. I get taken less serious than I should be...my original salesman knew I had at the time about 25 cars in my collection and knew I was serious but its all good I always get what I want when the time comes..

What do you attribute the suboptimal treatment to? Is it perhaps shoddy record keeping on their part? Indifference?

Given the volume you’ve provided FNA one would imagine your allocations to be decent!

Who knows ..for one thing I have most of my cars in an LLC and they know that but if they just search my name they may forget.. My main point is if I was in there every few weeks I would get some allocation that I do not seem to get now....most of my purchases have been used not by choice but because the dealer does not give me an allocation .. I go up and configure the cars then never get them so you tell me?

I thought Ferrari dealers were protected by territory. Did that change?

Sounds like disorganization on their part. If that’s the case, one would think they’d strive to connect the dots about who is purchasing their cars even if sometimes in LLC or individually.

But maybe being organized isn’t really in their ethos?

I think you are absolutely correct for new Ferraris but pre-owned I don't believe so.

I know the 599 GTO they had was purchased from out of state buyer as well as the LaFerrari Aperta they had as well as a purple Pista a while back. And the person who bought my 88 TR I traded them was from out of state.

Even if so Ferrari dealers are pretty scarce in this region- gotta go North to Salt Lake- South to Scottsdale or west to Vegas/Cali- No clue East but nothing in Kansas or Missouri.

    Cheers
