I’ve seen this question posted as a poll only once in 2005, it would be nice to see if and how things have changed over the past 17 years. For consistency I reused the same values as in the 2005 poll. I’ve only added an option to allow members to cast a vote to see the results without making them public (to prevent skewing). I’ve also disabled multiple votes, the lucky ones who one more than one F-car can just sum up the yearly mileage, after all you can only drive one car at a time. Votes are anonymous and you can update them afterwards.
Combining all of them seems like it skews the actual point usually made that Ferraris tend not to be driven as much as an average car. I think I’m most proud of reaching the 5,000 kilometer mark at Mugello in the FXXK Evo, although that did take three seasons. If you separated it between track and street miles my numbers on track would be pretty cool. I’m guessing over 5,000 miles a year on track between the 458CH, 360CH, FXX, FXXK, Pista Pilotas, Speciale, 599 GTO, Enzo, F50, F40, La Ferrari Aperta, SF90 and the occasional GT like a Roma or Porto. Outstanding collection indeed, congratulations, it's absolutely amazing. Regarding the poll: the polling system is quite simple, I would have needed to ask 2 questions: how many cars you own and how many miles you drive but that would have been chaotic. I made the assumption that either drivers with 1 F-car are more than drivers with multiple F-cars or, in case of multiple cars, one would be driven more than the others (such as one for daily drives, one for tracks). Not perfect I know, but at least the per-capita mileage remains accurate. Anyway, happy to bug the community with multiple polls if more accurate metrics are desired
I've put 3600 on my 2012 458 spider in the last 10 months. I've almost put more miles on than all the previous owners combined.
I’ve put 2,600 miles on my F12 in the last 10 months Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
It's varied over the years. '92 348tb ~7K miles in 2.5yrs '95 355b ~13K miles in 7yrs '00 360 ~14K miles in 13yrs (only ~500mi over last 3 years of ownership) '19 488gtb ~5K miles in 2yrs
Averaging 5K miles per year in the Cali. Not bad, I think, considering it's a no road trip, two - three times per week point A to point A attitude readjuster! Plus, we have 4 other cars to exercise. Drive it a little, drive the wheels off it - there is no wrong way to enjoy a Ferrari (body kits notwithstanding [emoji6]). T
IF I had a full time mechanic at my disposal, I would be driving the piss out of my Ferrari at the track!
The "how many cars" variable is critical IMHO- I have 5 cars- one being the DD- but do drive the Ferraris (2) often- so for me probably around 1000 per year- but if I only had DD and one Ferrari (as I did for quite a while) I would ne in the 5000 per year category- I'm sure many/most on here are in the same (or better) situation- Fun poll/thread though
Same here. 4 cars and 2 drivers, so the two Ferrari's get about 1000-1500 miles per year combined. Plus, not a good time to be flashing an exotic in Southern California right now unless I stay in my neighborhood.
I try and hit around 3K per year. Last year I was far below that number but life was really hectic with a baby on the way, my beloved pup being terminally ill and the things I was working on around the farm. Hopefully this year I’ll get to enjoy it more.
Casted my vote for the 5k-7k range, which is just an estimate. We’ve only had the car since early January and we’re at about 2k for the year so far. I know people worry about mileage, maintenance (from wear and tear), and depreciation, but I consistently force myself to think beyond that and just try to enjoy the car while I’m lucky enough to own it. A friend told me that if one is more worried about mileage than enjoying the car, then they should get 2, one for the garage and one of the road. Granted not everyone can do what he does, his message was clear: you buy a Ferrari to drive it or to collect it, treading between the extremes is always a struggle. It's hard to enjoy it if every mile weighs on your shoulders. In the end it helps to ask yourself why you got it in the first place and aim for that single goal without compromising.
as i have often said, the best way to keep the mileage low on your ferrari, is to have many ferraris.....
I have a function in my database that calculates mileage numbers by taking the most recent known mileage for each car of a particular type. Just because this is the one generated a little earlier today for something else, here are the numbers for UK, RHD, manual, 360 Spiders (mileage available for 450 cars): Lowest total mileage: 84 Highest total mileage: 101806 Average total mileage: 27464 Average per year: 1947 Maximum per year: 10164 (Note that the per year figures are based on whole years regardless of what point in the year the car was delivered).
So, if you're doing more than 2K miles per annum, ca. 3 thousand km, you're at the head of the class? T
I bought my Cali exactly a year ago and drove 5K miles. Brought to tracks 6x last year and already replaced brake pads, rotors and tires… very costly so I will limit this year for tracks but use for daily driving car… Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The poll is now closed, thank you everyone for spending time answering it, let's now see what changed between 2005 and 2022! First of all: the 2005 poll had 76 participants, the 2022 version had 99 participants. A good +30% increase in drivers, probably due to the fact that the community grew, rather than an indication of more F-cars around, and certainly influenced by the fact that the 2005 poll allowed for multiple votes. Let's take a look at the trends Image Unavailable, Please Login Drivers appear, in average, to be driving a bit less than they used to in 2005 on a per-capita basis, ignore the last datapoint (it was 3 drivers in 2005 and 4 in 2022). We can notice a shift from longer average driving distances (3001 to 10000 miles) towards shorter journeys (500 to 3000 miles) How much is everyone driving compared to 17 years ago? Image Unavailable, Please Login This is a perfectly normal (Gaussian) distribution with its peak at 2,215 miles. As an unfair comparison, in average a US driver will drive 14,263 miles over a year. European drivers have an average of 11,300 km per year (7021 miles), half that of a US driver, possibly due to large differences in gas costs and general shorter distances over a smaller territory, but I don't want to speculate. So are F-cars driven less than regular cars? The answer seems to be yes and it won't surprise anyone. It's most probably just coincidental but 2,215 miles is almost precisely 1/7 of 14,263 or in other words: F-cars are used in average once a week, which is actually coherent with the community feedback. What about absolute numbers? Image Unavailable, Please Login What is interesting here is that the long-tail has been conserved over the years, there are a few hardcore drivers, ~4% in aggregate over 2022 and 2005, driving the hell out of their F-cars (kudos to you folks!) otherwise drivers tend to use their F-cars once a week or for relatively short-trips - remember: in average, not in absolute. There's a lot of data we don't have due to the poll structure (how many F-cars each driver owns, for how long they drive them, how frequently etc etc) but it was a fun exercise. If the mods don't ban me, next time we can do a 5-questions survey to dig deeper into the data and compare the different habits. Hopefully I haven't bored you to death and enjoy the weekend and feel free to point out any mistake so I can correct them.
