They were originally rosso cina originally unless otherwise mentioned. I realized after a long time of typing that it would take me dozens of hours to continue to type out all the owners, and since that info may very well be readily available, I then decided just to do a little history or description rather than a full owner list. So, if you have questions about a specific car, I can provide more details.

    3223GT; sold originally 19 June 1962;

    Owned by:
    1. Luigi Chinetti Motors
    2. Bob McKelvy/Scuderia Bear Jul 1962 to Sep 1963

    4. Larra Perkins
    5. Bob Grossman
    6. Ercole
    7. Mastroiani

    9. Bob Bodin, 198501994, registered 614 422 (MN) then via David Gizzi

    3387GT, sold 16 March 1962

So, it’s spent much of its life in the US. It’s race debut was in March 1962 at Sebring where Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien drove it to second overall and first in its class. Original color was blue gentiana with white racing stripe.

LHD, In 1965 Norinder fitted a Drogo body which, IMO, was beautiful as can be, but it was later removed after a road accident.

    8. Sir Anthony Bamford (1966-1973)
    9. Don Nelson (1973-1984)
    10. Stephen Pilkington

Graber modified it for road use in 1965, adding “bumperettes” and VW Transporter rear lines. It has now been returned to its original body but retains its Graber trimmed interior AND wind up windows.

    2. Tom O’Connor / Rosebud Racing (USA, 1962-64)

    4. J. Korton
    5. Gallogly
    6. Engelbert Steiger

After much abuse, it was finally completely restored by Steiger

3607 GT, sold 6 June 1962, recessed sidelights below the headlight cover sides. Stripped to 1984 to bare metal and sent to Modena having tired aluminum replaced and then repainted using the original artisan methods

3647GT, RHD, in the same ownership to James McNeil from 1967 until now. Only 3851GT has had longer continuous ownership. It was almost destroyed in 1962 in the Tourist Trophy, but was rebuilt. Major crash again in 1963 and rebuilt again.

3705GT, Rosso Cino with French tricouleur stripe (see my profile pic). Interesting factoid: a bug deflector was fitted on the drivers side bonnet in March 1962 for Le Mans, and the cockpit air intake on that side tunneled to an opening in the base of the deflector.

3729GT: bianco. Yes, bianco. RHD, now repainted red. Got lots of mods throughout its life, including getting a 250 SWB engine (2735GT). It later got its original engine back! British ownership its entire life

3757GT Nick Mason. Not much else to say… Registered 250 GTO

3767 GT Verde (BP Green) – also now repainted red. Traveled a ton throughout its life, restored in 1983 with British made body, registered 63 GTO by Sir Anthony Bamford (owned 1974 ownwards) Piper (who used to own Jim’s – or parts of Jim’s P4!) was the original owner.

3769GT, Argento Metallic with blue stripe – retains this color scheme today, and looks good. Owned by Anthony Wang.

3809GT In German for all but its first three years. 1976 modified with wider nose opening, circular break cooling ducts.

3851GT Grigio Metallic, owned the longest of all GTOs – Fabrizio Violati since 1965

3869GT, RHD, displayed at the 1962 London motor show, relatively short competition history

3909GT, griogio metallic, got an egg-crate front grilled in the 70s, sold for 10 million pounds in 1989.

3943GT, started rosso cina, then went to silver, now back to red. Owned by Tom Price.

3987GT, GT class victory in 1963 at Sebring, owned from 1985 on by Ralph Lauren

4091GT, lots of different stuff happened to this one. Originally grigio metallic, rebodied in 1963 in the 1964 style, battery location amended to the 64 position behind the drivers seat, dashboard altered to 1964 layout. New body constructed in USA in 1974. Now owned by Peter Sachs, New Hampshire plates, with a license plate cover that says “I’d rather be racing.”

4115GT, grigio metallic, only one sold new in Germany (to Hermann Cordes), now in Great Britain

4153GT grigio metallic with central French tricoleur stripes. Only GTO to live in Spain, after going to France in 1970. Was in a garage for 16 years after problems with French customs, and it just sat there. Now its owned by Nicolaus Springer.

4219GT , rapinted dark blue from the original red in 1964 and is still the dark blue.

4293GT, now in Hong Kong, by Patrick Ma

4399GT, rebodied by factory at end of 1963, the first GTO to be rebodied by Scaglietti in the 1964 style.

4491GT, Verde (BP Green), after sale in 1965 Peter Sutcliffe had a bulge formed on the roof to accommodate his crash helmet. In 1981, it was returned to its original body configuration and color scheme.

4675GT, Second 1964 rebody to long-roof style, now Matsuda.

4713GT, only GTO fitted with 330 LM berlinetta body retained throughout its life. Now, Anthony Wang. Dashboard was standard 62 GTO. Really interesting body.

4757GT, Car was confiscated by the FBI in the 1980s and was owned by them, eventually sold in 1987. If anyone could elaborate on this, sounds like an interesting story.

5095GT, lots of mods including these gigantic Ford Cortina Mk 1 rear lights that look ridiculous. Bardinon later took them off.

5111GT, now Papalardo, won the Tour de France in 1963

5571GT, First GTO with ’64 body from new.

5573GT, metal reworked for the 1964 Le Mans race for an intake for cold air induction, a feature that it still has. Also Bardinon.

5575GT, Driven by a woman! – Annie Soisbault-Montaigu to first in her class in the 1964 Tour de France. Her husband was driving his ’62 GTO, 3607GT.

    The 4 liters –

3673SA, Matsuda , in late 80s had a 250 SWB body removed and it was fitted to 250 GTE 4639GT, and received a new 1962 GTO body.

3765 LM, Jim Jaeger 1985 onwards, long, diverse history.

4561 SA, registered 330 GTO by Ian and Martin Hilton in the 80s. Owned in 1990 an don by Engelbert Steiger

4381 SA, 330 LM Berlinetta, orginally lacked a tail spoiler and radiator cap access flap on the nose, but got a bolt on tail spoiler before Le Mans in 1963. Rebodied as a Le Mans spider by Fantuzzi of Modena. In 1978 it went back to Fantuzzi for its original 330 LM body, which it still has now.

4453 SA, 330 LM Berlinetta, restored in 1986. Now Anthony Wang.

4619 SA, 330 LM Berlinetta, four speed synchromesh gearbox,

    4725SA, 330 LM Berlinetta, non-synchromesh gearbox

The GTO owned by a Mexican national is of the '64 body style. Going from memory, it was the last one built.

There were two originally blue - 3387GT and 3589GT. A third, 4219GT, was repainted blue at some point and retains that color today.

As long as we're mentioning repainted GTOs, Ralph Lauren's 3987GT was originally red but repainted in metallic blue w/white stripe by John Mecom (these were Mecom's team colors) in 1962 and spent most of it's life in blue. Not long ago, it was doing the concours circuit clothed in nothing but bare aluminum, as it was being restored by Paul Russell and Co. Though I've not seen it since, my understanding is that it's been repainted in its original red.

Martin: are you aware of the Bluemel/Pourret book on the 250 GTO? Pick one up if you get a chance.

History, inc ownership, and photos of every 250 GTO. Of course, it is a snapshot of owners at the time of publication, but these cars don't change hands very often.

How many 1962 GTOs were built WITHOUT the rear spoiler? Just one?

I'm old enough to remember when Chris Cord couldn't get his $9,000 asking price for a GTO...I think it was a '64 body style car....

How is an MC12 a Ferrari? It's a Maserati, no matter what "spec", as far as I'm concerned.
