Lost my job and so to get some breathing room I'm considering selling my 458. How's that process work? Do I only get paid once someone buys it from the dealer? How much can I expect to lose if I go through a dealer etc. How quickly would I get the money? I'm also curious about just going to another exotic car dealership and selling it there if that would net me the money faster.

Wow that was quick, didn't you just get your car? I don't think you will avoid losing money as they aren't going up that quickly.

Anyway, you have a few options...

I would avoid a consignment with a dealer, too many horror stories and just selling to a dealer outright you will be low-balled.

You can join here as a paid member and post your car to the classifieds with lots of pictures and information or you could contact someone like Mike from yellow compass supercars https://ycsupercars.com to find a buyer.

    Cheers,
    Corey

Crazy how life works sometimes. I'll be fine. I just rather be safe here and re-purchase again in a few years. @vdm9 I think I won't opt to do a private sale because I don't know what I'm doing. :)

Selling to a Ferrari Dealership is the quickest and easiest, you should get a reasonable offer, but it will be based on actual condition**. Bring your clear title with you and expect to walk out with money in hand.

Selling to an independent dealership, you may get more money, but I wouldn't turn over the title till you get confirmed funding in your account.
Tricky, but only real way to protect yourself.

Selling on Bring a Trailer, again have clear title in hand, pay the $350 fee for them to do pretty much everything for you. You answer questions from potential buyers until the auction ends. Bring a Trailer connects you with the highest bidder. Make a plan to meet at the bank where they can transfer funds and you hand of car and title.

Selling " retail " person to person would net you the most money.

** A lot of owners feel like they have a perfect car until its pointed out they don't actually. Reconditioning a car for sale can run into the 10's of thousands and needs to be considered when pricing a car for sale. A Dealer is expected to make a car like new where-as an individual can get away with selling as-is.

I have an older Ferrari and visited the dealer.
    For consignment -
you pay for their pictures and a full detail. A couple thousand.
you take their suggestion on selling price
    they post
if it doesn't sell in a couple weeks, price is negotiated to be lowered.
when it sells, they collect 7%

If you want them to buy it outright (and they agree to) then obviously you'll negotiate a price.
Expect it to be a little lower than you liked.

Maybe contact some of the advertisers in the Commercial section, they often post they are looking for inventory.

Do you use an independent ferrari mechanic? If you do talk to him, good chance he knows has a customer looking for a 458; as everyone knows they are quite hot right now. Mechanics does ppi for customer, you sell customer your car, work out a little something for the mechanic, everyone wins. Just be sure to price the car fairly. Will save you money over selling to a dealer.
