How do you say certain Ferrari's names?

I have wondered this myself. I am with you on the 4 you mention. But what about the 456?

 

My first experience with Ferrari nomenclature, as with so many of my generation, was the 308 -- three-oh-eight. I'm sure it would be more proper to say three-zero-eight, but "oh" has become such a standard substitution in the U.S., that I don't think many would ever consider it.

That said, I always have said:

308: three-oh-eight
328: three-twenty-eight
348: ""-forty-""
355: three-fiftyfive
360: three-sixty
456: four-fiftysix
612: six-twelve
550: five-fifty
575: five-seventyfive
430: four-thirty
400: four-hundred
512 (bb or TR): five-twelve
333: three-thirtythree
365: three-sixtyfive
and so on...

The one exception (that I can think of) is the 166MM Barchetta - but I think I got this from Alain de Cadenet in the "Victoy By Design DVD:

166 - one-six-six....to me, that just sounds "right".

 

360 ---> Three-Sixty
550 ---> Five-Fifty
575 ---> Five-Seven-Five
355 ---> Three-Five-Five
612 ---> Six-One-two

I think people change to what they think is easiet. Remember the old Ford Mustang 5.0 AKA Five point Oh ! or Fifty

 

Remember, it's a British program, and they often do that with numerical designations.

After all, in Britain you have "aluminium" and "aeroplane"!

Actually it’s an English program (don’t forget Britain is made of three countries England/Wales/Scotland)

In England we pronounce English words correctly as opposed to the American pronunciation which is English (American), traditionally the American variation of English has been a slightly more phonetic / lazy language e.g. Color instead of Colour etc.

What are you talking about? Did you read their new press release, 612 is on the way to a best seller, what's the wait list like for the 612, think it's shorter than the 430 (four thirty)?

Are you also implying that Scotsmen, Welshmen and Ulstermen do not pronounce the words correctly?

I always wondered about alternate spellings for the same word, e.g. defence vs. defense. But I prefer the American spelling of words such as color, since that silent "u" is just another one of the excessive number of silent letters in the language. I'm glad I learned English first, because it's certainly tougher than Spanish!

And remember, Henry Higgins said that America was one of those places where English "completely disappears". Two peoples separated by a (supposedly) common language, I guess.
