Ferraris located in Dubai are mostly gulf specs does anyone know the difference between gulf specs and US specs and why that would be a problem importing a Ferrari 430 from Dubai to Canada or US does anyone here have any experience importing Ferrari from that region of the world?

Ferraris in Dubai are very similar to Ferraris in the US in terms of smog and emissions, and the different tags and labels required by the US. There are some Middle Eastern cars registered here in the US - it shouldn't be too difficult to import one now.

Prices are also better, there is about a 15%-25% price variance between US and the ME, Dubai in particular stocks the best exotics in the region.

I know the cooling fans kick sooner on Gulf spec cars, according to my mechanic that is about the only difference he did notice from working on both.

Gulf spec cars in general (I'm not sure about Ferrari specifically) have uprated cooling systems, air con and windscreens - all to cope with the high temperatures and relentless sun exposure.

EDIT: They also have that annoying chime when you exceed a certain speed!

Are Middle East cars more money? I feel like US cars are the cheapest. I could be wrong. My brother deals with a guy who buys late model US Toyota SUVs and ships to Middle East as they are cheaper here.

If I am not mistaken Dubai cars even have a US spec VIN. So, they are US spec.

The only problem with importing a newer car is that FNA won't warranty it. But with an older cars it should be a no brainer.

Why do you think that? We have seen several f-chatters post cars in Europe that are cheaper than US prices...especially Italy, to point out one market, but even Switzerland seemed lower and their franc is up over historical norms...

I think this is very dependent on the model of the Fcar. I have seen some models cheaper in EU and some models advertised in the US cheaper there.

What I have found..... in my experience is that when negotiating in EU, a large sum can be taken off the asking price. Dont know how it is in the US, never bought a car there.

1st point...I lived in Dubai for ~ 6 years and in Qatar for another 5. I looked into importing a car to the US but was assured that there were significant differences regarding emissions and safety criteria. This was told to me by the Dubai Fcar sales rep. By the time I costed everything up..including transportation...just wasn't worth it.

2nd point...importing an Fcar from anywhere in the Middle East...Russian Roulette only with 5 in the chamber ((-:. There are enthusiasts...and then there are the 'others'. I saw a 360 being towed by a breakdown truck...engine in the air and the front spoiler scraping the ground (Qatar).

    3rd point...getting a credible PPI.

4th point...paying 100% up front before even physcially seeing the car.

    5th point...US import taxes.

Just my 2 cents...STCWN..subject to correction without notice ((-:

I was told the original delivery location for my 360 spyder was Dubai. No difference. Even the DMV shows the vin number in their data base.

Just passing on info I got from the Ferrari main dealer in Dubai. When I was there (93-98) there was no emissions testing..basic mechanicals but no emmission. There was emissions testing when in Qatar (2006), but I don't know what the pass/fail range was.

there isnt a big difference, the dash is in KM/Hr. All that cooling stuff doesnt apply with relatively modern cars yr 2000 plus. Yes in the past like the 70s 80s and 90 s the cars where different. middle eastern cars had bigger radiators different thermostats and fans that switched on earlier. but nowadays i dont think it applies to many cars. I think a Ferrari shipped to a Ferrari dealership in Arizona or Vegas will be equal to one sent to Dubai interms of heating and fans and coolant.........etc.

Prices are definitely cheaper in Dubai, bcz of the shear volume of exotics for sale.

As said in a post earlier there is two kinds of ferraris or exotics in general. One bought by a rich dad to his son who doesnt care, these cars have seen burnouts multiple LCs but still do get serviced at the dealership, then there is the ferrari bought by equally rich people but they are actually car enthusiasts who love the car enjoy it then move on to the next latest exotic .

I lived in Canada for many years and brought a few cars over to Canada from Dubai(the U.A.E) with no issue, the main thing was to get the drls activated which is a must in Canada.

Get the car you want checked out and buy what you like.
