Hey, Marrone is not brown. Its a bronze color and it is a METALLIC color! I thinks its classy like the model itself. So far I too like it in any color. Jay, that silver one is just stunning. The contrast with the red interior is amazing and pure classic. The lack of the federalized side markers is a major plus as I too agree that they do take away a little from the Italian European lines. Enjoy it when is arrives and I look forward to seeing more pictures plus your review/comparison to the manual 400i. Regards, Max
Max- Yeah yeah I know-Marrone can look pretty good in the right light... Good luck with your search- from our conversations sounds like you're close... 412 unloads today but weather is lousy here and still sorting out some title issues- But I'll give it a quick "Italian Tuneup" and report back-
Here are some pictures of my garage. A 400i GT and a 365GT4 2+2. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great to find this thread, new to this forum although already on Scuditalia / Club Scuderia / PH etc. Read through the dialogue with Wayne and David with much interest as I also have an ex-Shaun Bealey car, although from a bit earlier - a 1979 400i manual in grey/green with tan leather. Like the others he had his numberplate on my car for about 9 months before selling on. Mike Lester at QV Engineering worked for Maranello during this period and recalls working on Shaun's regularly changing 400s / 412s. Good to be in touch with you all and will post some pics when I get a chance.
Been on the ferry many times, and recognize those places. Hope for high tide, so the ramp angle isn't too steep.
Hi Nick, Welcome to the fold. Looks like this forum is littered with Shaun's ex-company cars! (PS looking forward to the pics, the colour of your car sounds lovely) David
Here's my 400i engine AND chassis beneath a 365 Daytona spyder body!!! Still a work in progress, but I'm slowly getting it up together. Not everyone's taste, but better to "rescue" a basket case 400i than just scrap it and scatter the bits to the wind. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am a huge fan of the original, but if the body is beyond repair this is the way to d it! A client of us has the same with a Maserati Indy. Great mechanics, but the body and interior are very very tired and a restoration will cost at least 60k+. So build a 450ss out of the Indy-ruins Btw Darren : The CD will be posted next week. And if you have any questions on the engine, send me an email.
Thanks Flinch, I have a foot in both camps when it comes to originality, I've got several other "obsessively original" classic cars. The 400i Daytona is a welcome relief from my personal OCD. However I do admit to wanting to make it look more "accurate" in various area's. For example I've just finished the replica 365 fuse box and covers (hand made) you see in the engine bay shot.
Welcome to the "ex Shaun" club. At least it seems that all his cars were manual. We have to thank him for bringing so many in. Perfect way to preserve a rusty 400i Darren. Well done.
It was low tide in Haines. I still don't know how I made it at the top of the ramp without hitting the exhaust.
For David and Wayne - some pics as promised (a couple from our upstairs window). Car is looking good after body and mechanical work over the winter. However went out for a run yesterday and power steering failed...back to QV then... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nick I lived in Reading before moving to the States in 2003. Looks like you live in St Mary Butts? Aidan
Aidan, Good to make contact - we actually live by the Thames in Reading, but similar 1980's development. Will need to move ther car fast if it ever floods! Best, Nick
Skip Haines - do the Bellingham to Juneau to Wittier (used to be Seward) every time, but still low ramps! No borders to cross. Car looks great by the way - home in Fairbanks/North Pole for the winter?
Nice car Nick, in my opinion that is the best colour for the 400, it's very much in keeping with the low-key non-shouty image that these cars project. David
here is a pic before a clean which never happened in the end due to neighbours chatting and going for a spin. I'm struggling to load more than one as the site keeps freezing. Image Unavailable, Please Login
