Has Ferrari ever contemplated entering the US NASCAR market with a vehicle entry?
no offense, but I hope I never see the day this happens. Personally, I would like to see a full factory effort for le Mans and other enduros.
...why not. Maybe they can benefit from the state of the art engineering currently in NASCAR - like the novel rear suspension design. Who knows with the recent F1 change of regs FIA might push everyone to a solid rear axle to save money... Ferrari would be way ahead of other teams...
They did build an indycar once................... http://www.autosrapidos.com/ferrari/miscelaneas/nota05.htm The text is in spanish, it's the only article with a pic i could find.
Nope, and I hope they never do! However, I think these guys may think it's cool Image Unavailable, Please Login
There's no reason for Ferrari to build a NASCAR team. In racing, you are there to promote your brand and to promote your automobiles. The NASCAR mindset is on the big three (and that means Toyota, Ford, GM for the most part while Dodge is barely holding on to their market share). Putting an exotic car manufacturer on the grid would do nothing for the brand and most of the individuals would not support it. They are more about grass roots drivers who drive their favorite cars - or rather, marques.
They don't have a production car close enough to create a template from. I suppose they could campaign a coupe "612", but they don't have a pushrod V8 block to base the motor off of. Toyota actually created a new motor for their production trucks so that they could use it as the design base for their NASCAR motors. Now, entering as Maserati might make more sense from a marketing point of view
They can't spell NASCAR in Italy... something about the translation... NASCAR isn't/hasn't ever been anywhere close to the company's philosophy. It will never happen, there's no point. MS, in an interveiw one time (60 minutes) said he couldn't even name one driver in the NASCAR series. Ferrari is the prominent player in the highest form of motorsport (F-1), why would they invest one dime or one minute of thought in a spec series like NASCAR?? Sure Toyota has entered the mix in the truck series but it's based on the fact that they produce trucks. Ferrari doesn't even produce anything remotely eligible for the NASCAR series, and why would they, they have nothing to gain. Ferrari is about sports racing cars.... not racing modified sedans.
Isnt F1 currently falling apart with the threat to Monza and SPA? Not to start a flame war but thats what Ive been reading. Nascar wouldnt be a good step for Ferrari but like others said endurance races would be a hugh plus.
I'm totally against Ferrari in NASCAR, but I am 100% for Schummi going over to NASCAR and showing them how its done. If he came over and dominated the sport, it would make the entire set of good ol' boys look like amateurs.
I am not big on NASCAR, but I think those drivers can hold their own against anyone from any other circuit.
i agree completely. I can't remember who did it but someone traded cars with Jeff Gordon and they drove each other's cars on the USGP track. There was no domination. Also, Tony Stewert came from IRL (i think) and is a very good driver in his own right and there are a lot of drivers there that are no pushovers (Boris Said is another example). Then again, people like to stereotype and Michael Schumacher is god guys, don't ever forget it.
Im not sure about that LOL. Don't Nascar drivers only go round and round? I can see a WRC and F1 driver being compared but NASCAR?
Yeah, expecially when it comes to drinking Coors Light and cashing cheques. Driving on the other hand...
