    Hi Everyone,

Someone backed into my Dino this past weekend. I've been to my adjuster and he says the rate is $38/hour for body work. I laughed inside and said I was going to take the car to the shop that recently restored my car. The shop looked at the estimate and laughed. My shop is at $85-100/hr based on the task.

What's been your experiences when dealing with insurance claims for your classics?

    Thanks

$38 an hour??? That's what a Jiffy Lube budgets for a teeneager to change your oil. $85-100 seems in line.

I had a claim on my Lotus a few years back. I was stopped in a parking lot when a guy backed right into me. Three 4" cracks in the fiberglass. And Europa fiberglass is NOTHING like Vette glass; it's way thinner and a completly different application process. Hagerty said take it to a guy near me who does Lotus' and Lamborghinis, so I did and got an estimate of $1800. A guy from the other guy's insurance company then came out to look at the damage thinking it was too high. He seemed to know nothing about my car from talking with him, but he came up with $900 based on a Vette.

I got a check from Hagerty for $1800 like the next day, and then a check from Chubb for $900! I made a copy of the $900 check and returned it, and had the car repaired. They budgeted 15 hours labor at $90 per (I think) which included repairing the cracks, repainting the area and re-pinstriping. It's so nicely done that the only way you can tell is there's no orange peel! LOL The color and blending is perfect.

$80-$85/hr seems to be Ca rates. Here in Oregon the rates are between $44-$46/hr for excellent body work.

$38.00 seems low to me, but I guess it all depends on which insurance and which plan you have. I don't think you can find a place to work on a Ferrari for $38.00 hour.

take it to where you know the repair will be done right, and insist on the insurance paying for it.

sorry to hear about the car. hope all will work out.:)

$35-40/hr is the going rate for typical car collision work, Allstate only pays $30 which is why many shops refuse to do business with them.

Ferraris are high end and cost even more if its aluminum around $90+/hr.
