im planning a drive later this week. Melbourne is undergoing a heat wave, 4 days at 40 degrees or near enough (thats 105 F). I've never driven my 355 spider in such weather. Has anyone driven their 355 in extreme hot temperatures? How does it cope? any over heating problems? I think the a/c will struggle to cool the cabin. on the plus side, i will be doing mostly country driving so there will be plenty of air flow while cruising.

I've driven mine in 105 to 113F without issues in AZ. Some at normal to high speed, some in rush hour that I didn't anticipate.

I wouldn't make it a habit but life happens during hot times also. No concerns here. I'd take if out any temp. A/C was fine too.

Is that going to be a humid 40 or dry 40?

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, and I have had no overheating problems whatsoever in my 1998 355 F1 GTS since I bought it new in 1998. Sitting in heavy traffic which I don't do in my 355 may be another story.

The air conditioning may not cut it though when it is over 40 Celsius.

I drive my 575M all summer without any high oil or coolant temperatures or any A/C issues.

I just bought a 355 and I first found about Evans Waterless Cooling on Jay Leno's Garage on You tube. It was also mentioned on Exoticars-USA website, where my car is being serviced. I asked them about it and they gave it a full endorsement. It raises the boiling point by a significant amount, as well as eliminates the chance for engine and radiator corrosion. It involves flushing the system to get all the water out and then filling with their product. I believe this is costing about $400-450.00. Ask your local expert or a little online research and see if this would address your situation.

I have had only great results with Evans. It is the only way to keep a Flathead Ford cool in Las Vegas summers.

I haven't used Evans in my Ferraris or my Porsche.

To get the maximum results from it you need to do a complete purge of your ENTIRE cooling system.

Evans has awesome customer service, give them a call and they will answer all your questions.

Should be fine. Make sure that your thermostat is working properly as well as your cooling fans.

Top down, wear a hat :)
If your car is moving say > 25mph, you should be fine.

well on the way back from my drive, the temperature reached 44 degrees C. The 355 temp gauge stayed at half way or slightly under when cruising at 100km/h. But when i got to some traffic lights and stationary for a few minutes, temp gauge went up to 100 degree C. Also, in the hot weather, the vacuum tube for the bypass valve split and come loose, making the capristo bypass valve default to open. This made the car idle roughly. A new piece of hosing solved the problem.

The A/C struggled with the extreme heat. What do i need to do to get the A/C colder? Just doesnt get cold enough, even for 30 degree C days. any suggestions?

haha, a 575 would be nice, but whats the F1 shift like? Does it burn through clutches every few years? my main reasons for choosing a 550 instead of a 575 is the F1 shift vs manual and softer suspension on the 575.

My 355 is F1 and the 575M is also F1. No clutch problems ever on either car.

Good luck finding a manual six speed 575M.

How does your 550 hold up in the heat?

hey I don't have a 550. Its just that I would prefer a stick shift over single clutch paddle.

If you're driving on open roads with little traffic you'll be fine. If you have have to sit and idle in traffic, eventually the engine will overheat. I had to sit in traffic last summer during a heatwave while waiting to cross the border between USA and Canada and was about 5 minutes from having to turn the car off before it was my turn to speak to an agent.

Try that when it is 110 F / 43 C in the shade, and your results will be different.

Never had problems with mine in up to 105 degree heat. Take it to a competent a/c shop and have them check the system. If the air is nice and cold, you may need a more powerful blower motor or yours rebuilt to move enough air.

I've done it... and had the same results.
No problems at all other than sunburn on the back of my neck....

Vegas heat sucks.... but at least its a "dry" heat! LOL! ;)

    I have a GTS and I'm already a Redneck.

As long as I'm moving I never had a problem, when in standstill traffic on the Las Vegas Strip my car wasn't all that happy.

I was heading to get my car smogged at Penske-Wynn Ferrari at the Wynn, and took the scenic route last August.

my car has good fans and radiators. Everything is in order, the RHS radiator fan works good, and the LHS one comes one and off as required. When the temp got to 43 C, the temp gauge got to 100 C in standstill traffic. I was not in standstill traffic long enough for the temp gauge to move more.

My a/c fan is ok, im pretty sure the system is charged up too. The air is just not cold enough. Maybe a new compressor is required?
