I fitted the window accelerators 3 years ago, and they worked, but after the body shop totally disassembled and redid my car, the windows are painfully slow again. I was talking to some hot rod builders and they suggested removing the cables and installing universal hot rod power window kits, they claim the windows will work like my 2010 Audi, has anyone tried that? I could keep the original switches and everything would appear original, unless you removed the door panels.

I've put a few of the single rail kits in various cars and have wondered about putting them in the Ferrari. I'd spoken with the folks at "Specialty Power Windows" in Forsyth, Georgia. They have a VERY nice (but expensive) kit that uses Bosch motors that I've put in a few hot rods. After describing the Ferrari system, they seemed to think they could put together something that would work.

The grease in those gearboxes turns to glue. I've grown fond of the original setups. They take a little time to sort out, but then they do a fine job. Add to the character :)

Those window accelerator relays (I believe) just act on the return to ground path. If you study them, and/or search the internet, you can probably get a wiring diagram to help you sort it out.

It says it requires 8 ½ inches of clearance below the glass…does a 308 window have anywhere near 8 1/2” clearance below it?

I just wanted to post an example... when I spoke with them last year I gave them current dimensions, pictures and a drawing of the cable route. They said they could put together something that would work.

If anyone is really interested, give them a call. Pretty nice folks and they never bit me.

But once you have the Hot Rod window actuation setup installed, do you have to air brush some flames down the doors too??

    Just kidding.....

There are dozens of different types out there. They all do not require a lot of clearance on the bottom of the dor. There are also some 0 clearance units . The issue is to find the right one and then do the door modifications to mount on of these units. There are also replacement units for various cars . You would need to look at cars with small (height) type of doors. I bet it could be done and a kit could be made to get rid of the present wire unit. Someone needs to buy a used door and search for a small unit to mount. Would be a great project.

The windows in my 84 308 were very slow, passenger window got
to the point where you would have to "help" it up, just like most 308's.
Because of the leverage/torque of the window motors, I do
not think it is possible for bad grease to bog them down (just
my opinion), so I added the window relay boxes (the ones from
the UK with large wires). This made them much better, probably
50% faster. Then I added a fairly large ground wire to each door
(I think they originally grounded thru the door hinges?), this again
    made a great improvement.
Now I believe the window are as fast as when new
and I did not disassemble any window motors or have to reroute
any cables. Windows have been working great for last 2 years,
also a little silicon spray in the window channels is good.

    Larry,

Just to be balanced, it's probably a combination of the low voltage (solved in large part by the new relay boxes and better ground) and the lack of lubrication on the entire winding mechanism (not just motors).

Sounds like your fixes have worked out great - nice to see. Can I ask what relaxy boxes (from the UK) are you speaking of?

    Thanks.

Looking at their design it is understandable why they need space under the window. I hve seen many other designs where the drive motors are off to the side and above the track driver. This allows you to make an off-set bracket which will allow you to have the same window travel as OEM. Most of the later style units are single cable driven systems. I'm sure if someone had the time and design skills a kit could be built.

The relay boxes I used were from Colin Frazer.
