Horn on my 612 is shameful

About ten or twenty years ago Ricambi (and loads of other parts departments) did a very popular retrofit kit - I think it was to replace 360/430 era horn with 355 parts (something like that anyway.....)

 

Somebody else had a thread recently where he complained about the horn. Bob, what is this obsession with the horn?

I also have a 612 OTO and I literally honk once a year, when I have to demonstrate it works for my state inspection sticker.

 

If the horn is that important to someone buying a 612, then maybe they purchased the wrong car?

Like you, I never use the horn, so it doesn’t seem that important

Each their own I suppose

I bought a Fiamm classic sport air horn for my 612. Still need to install it. But it sounds like the old Italians, great!

 

I love the horn on the 550, the 612 horn is bleh !

And why do I need the horn ? To say hello ! good morning ! good bye ! All while waving my arms !! Ciao Luigi !

 

When you see that nice girl in Carmel, and she waves at you from across the street Riccardo, because she loves your OTO, you press the horn a couple of times, toot-toot ! Ciao bella !

But the sound from the 612 is very rude ! No good !

 

The horn on my 2008 612 says “honk! “

the horn on my 2004 575 M says “Ciao, Bella”!

I think I need to fix that.

If I make noise from the OTO the Carmel Carabineri ask too many questions

I am not familiar with any of the aftermarket horns you guys are touting. However, if they are anything like a blaring truck horn, I would very strongly advise against it.

 

Fiamm Road Master is the OEM for the older cars.

They call it the "Riviera" aka Ciao Bella, but the trumpet length on the Road Master is slightly different for a slightly different two tone. The NoS parts are over $400. I will record the Riviera when it arrives and post it here.

 

Like many of you I found the 612's original horn dull. Didn't sound like a Ferrari to me! In the early 70's my father let me drive his 1964 Lusso and that had a great horn! With my mechanics help I ended up leaving the original horn in place disconnected and put in an old Fiamm air horn. Much happier now!

 

Because you made me curious about the horn thing, I ordered one just for kicks

I doubt I’ll use it but I’m curious to hear what it sounds like

How did that Fiamm Riveria horn sound? Its cheap and readily available. Does it have a Ferrari sound? I also have a 355 to compare it to.
