Seriously, get a grip. Who cares. And Frankly, if I were driving my spider and it caught fire with the top burning as long as I and my passenger can get out safely, let it burn to the ground. Last thing I would want is an exotic with a carfax that says fire damage reported. No way I'm getting out and trying to extinguish the fire.

hmm that's an interesting and valid view lol.. never thought of it like that..

where if someone does manage to extinguish fire in time with not too serious damage.. but goes to have it repaired legitimately then a fire report would appear on carfax etc.. which would pretty much kill value of car. but if person just keeps it then doesn't really matter..

I drove 600kms to buy my car.. and drove it back 600kms.. the first thing I bought before leaving was a fire extinguisher LOL..!
because I knew from pictures the fuel block recall was not done.
within a few days of having it home it was at the dealer to perform the recall..!

I'm with John on this. I've NEVER had a fire extinguisher in any of the Ferraris I owned and will never put one in any of them...
If it goes up in flames....LET IT GO!!! That's why we have insurance. Get out. Get to a safe distance. Get a new car.

I agree with this once it's burning. If everyone is safe.....I carry one in case not everyone is safe. I also think the guys a tit for driving it after discovering a smell of gas.

I want to add an updated observation on the other YouTuber - Tarvish buying the car. While I first thought he may have inside connection, I remembered that Hoovie can retain salvage and some specialty and classic car polices have no deductible or salvage deduction clause. Pays full policy face value in case of total loss or language to that effect. So car could be sitting at IAA, but only for settlement purposes. Hoovie keeps car and Tarvish pays IAA fees to pick up or nominal salvage value deduction to make Hoovie whole and takes car.

Just got to thinking about that yesterday and wanted to put that out there so as to have an alternate dialogue other than one of deception or “insider” trading by Tarvish.

VW didn't make it - It was made without their consent. Tone deaf, but smart/funny for sure.

The car seems way beyond salvage to me. Unless Tavarish can recoup the money on Youtube videos it's a mistake to try to rebuild. Am I wrong?

Tavarish updated the info, he wont be buying the car anymore. Insurance considers it COD so it will never be road legal again.

And an update on the purchase, he says he was buying it directly from Hoovie, not insurance company, but I guess whats the internet for if not to accuse someone we've never met of being unethical...

Doug is a Contributor to Autoweek and a YouTuber who is hard on the 355. Heck, he Hard on all cars, has a “Doug scale” he ranks them with. But he has a style and a vibe that can be endearing and off putting at the same time. So those who know Doug and seeing what his opinion and feeling on cars, may better relate to my snarky comment. He Worked for Porsche at one time and throws the greatness of them around at times too.

I like Doug. Don’t know him, but his view on the 355 and the fire hazard he plays upon as well as exaggerated cost of ownership is well documented, so I was making reference to lowering the values...again.

I couldn't let my car burn to the ground. It would be pretty devastating. A common thread I have seen with these fires is that people ALWAYS smell something burning first. Let it be known... If you smell something burning, pull over immediately, turn the engine off and check the engine compartment with an extinguisher in hand.

Easier said than done methinks. If you're driving on the highway at 70-80 mph not sure how well you can smell and how fast you can pull over to stop it.

So Tavarish is buying it now that the title is salvage and no longer COD? Seems like too much work...
