    Hello All,

I ordered a replacement pair of hood struts from Ricambi and installed them a month ago. They've now gone flat as of this morning, and Ricambi are issuing a refund, but I need to order a new pair. Would the original struts on my car have had Ferrari logos? The clapped-out ones I replaced did not. Can someone recommend a supplier (either in USA or UK?)

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to All,

    Dan

Is that the engine lid struts you’re looking for, or the front hood?

If that’s the engine lid ones (60592800), I have a couple extra ones (I bought a pair from Ferrparts, and forgot I had gotten a pair from Superformance already weeks before) if you’re interested.

the original ones do have Ferrari on them but otherwise they’re pretty much identical.

you’ll also need the ring clips (11087876) which are super cheap (20 cents or something) but necessary. And I’d get a couple extra as they can easily bend on install

These would be the struts for the engine hood. The bad ones that I took off the car (car has 50k miles) say Stabilus, but no Ferrari logo. If they should have the logo, I'd like to see if I can find a pair of those and have them recharged. Any chance these non-Ferrari ones on my car were actually OEM?

No I don’t think so. The OEM ones have Ferrari logos on them but they’re the same Stabilus ones otherwise.

I sent my pair from my 84 QV with the original logo to Frank Irvine at Strut Wise years ago and it’s still working great today.
    Give him a call. https://strutwise.com/

I just spoke with Frank yesterday, actually. Does anybody have a knackered pair with Ferrari logos you’d sell me?

    Dan:

Forget about the little horse on your struts…nobody cares (unless your car is a concours queen).

Just go to www.liftsupportsdepot.com and buy some cheap, but effective, hood struts for your 308.

Also, take a close look at the bolt attaching the lower end of the strut to the bodywork…these factory bolts are made of paper mache’ and unicorn spit and are a known weak point. Order proper replacements from Ricambi (part #40161903).

Dan, surprise yourself and take a look at RockAuto. They have Stabilus struts for your '84 engine lid. I copied the spec sheet below. The air spring shows a holding force of 300N (67 lbs). Look at the piston barrel specs shown on your struts to see if yours are also 300N and confirm the other specs. My guess is that at $17.72 each, you will kiss the prancing logo goodbye. Actually, I have always gone to RockAuto for struts on all of my cars, but I noticed that the most recent Stabilus struts that I purchased for the TR were made in Mexico and were exactly to the specs, and thus the lower cost.
