I've tried and tried to get the 488 programed but nothing seems to work (read other posts). About a year ago, I managed easily to program my wife's Cal T but frankly, forgot how I did it.
Tried it with the repeater and without. Changed the batteries in the remote. Held the remote in front of the mirror and between the mirror and glass. Cleared the memory in the car by holding buttoms 1 and 3. Held button one down until the green light fast flashed. Double pressed the learn button on the 8500 wall unit (unlike chain drives, the 8500 has the learn button on the wall and requires that it be pressed twice to learn). Any where to go from here?

    1. Without the repeater plugged in, program a Homelink button in the car using the repeater's remote. [Hold down buttons 1 and 3 for 20 seconds until the light flashes quickly. This will clear the coding. Then hold down the button you want to program and the repeater's remote simultaneously until the light flashes quickly.]

    2. Plug in the repeater and extend the antenna.

    3. Press the "Learn" button on the Liftmaster unit. Within 30 seconds, press the programmed button in the car and hold it until the Liftmaster's light flashes.

Ski Bum - Will try this weekend. About the only thing I didn't do is unplug the repeater as I have my wife's Cal-T programmed with it. However, just like re-booting a computer and pulling the power for 30 seconds, perhaps this is the key. Otherwise, I am at the point of pulling out my remaining hair (top already gone, so only the sides remain). Hopefully you are right.

My mistake was that I kept trying to get the car to learn on the original Liftmaster remote (you must use the remote that came with the repeater). I'm not confident that unplugging the repeater is the key to your issue -- it's in the instructions, but I thought it was simply to avoid opening/closing the door during the prgramming of the car's Homelink button. Good luck.

This saga has been going on since the dealer delivered the car on December 20. Every few days, I get inspired to try again. Let you know if unplugging does anything or not but you are correct that the single button repeater remote holds the most promise.
