OK, out of curiosity, who has the highest mileage on their FF without having replaceed or repaired the power transfer unit? I’ll start. 2014 with 31k miles.
I'm on 51k miles and as far as I can tell on the original PTU. Had to replace both hoses and some seals though as they were leaking fluid.
I think this is a good idea. It is a good companion piece to the thread updated by ANOpax ( https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/ff-ptu-design-flaw.605529/page-78 ). Coincidently in the latest post a member has about 57K miles without a problem. I am at 24,250 miles in a 2015 with no failure, but I did have an oil line burst.
It would be interesting as well to keep track of the oil line burst events. One easy way for Ferrari to "fix" the PTU would be to reduce the oil pressure, or put some hydraulic dampers in the system so that the pressure spikes are not as high. This would reduce the impact on the selector bearing retainer rings, as well as on the oil lines. If the oil line burst events are significantly lower on the Lusso, it is a fair assumption that the pressure has been somewhat lowered or "despiked".
It is my understanding that some of the hydraulic line failures occur when the car "bottoms out". I just had Hollywood Mechanic install one of his new lines after he pointed out this issue. He also pointed out that the floor on the Lusso compared to the FF has been designed slightly differently to better accommodate the line and perhaps make the "bottoming out" failure less likely on the Lusso by adding a space for the line, which as I recall from his explanation runs under the subframe which creates the potential problem. I had him install the newly designed line yesterday. Hopefully, this will prevent/postpone any potential issues. Mine was changed prophylactically. He sells the kit on ebay so that any shop can install. https://www.ebay.com/itm/125911150158?hash=item1d50e3ae4e:g:XkgAAOSw2q9kTgSE&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0MhLofP2rp3DRuM2LfX%2FC3j2nBXUADYJnCNl8eqF2sRprPYuCTEqD7GulRr1QGOXubtvlO7lhirh8JQdTijM9FpMyRGR4eBot6Fz0w8lrlEDeuFGuEqStfyOHFOgrikBBfOnlwXSLWrk9H466t03u70KJoBAOgE5sFR9jqw3gsYa%2FJ2PSSSJGxDNoRifn4IKcTiSviQf89%2Fzc2El5AS3IfqjqbLvLCGvwYgNoYCWvBb%2F2YyoRGlFbzlxq3gizphzarg7hj0AEZB3y9dbB8nRFtM%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR46U8pjcYg
this seems a bit weird, considering the location of that and just how much suspension travel would have to occur for it to bottom out. it would be one hell of a violent hit, and doesn’t seem like this is a common occurrence.
I was surprised as well, but he did show me the difference in the floor on the Lusso vs. FF to accommodate the hose and perhaps limit the likelihood? In either case, it seems like a strange place to position this hydraulic line?
2013 car 32,500 miles still on original PTU but I'm about to replace one of the hoses due to it starting to perish.
