Hi, Does any one has a recommendation for a good Exhaust system that works well with the 308 and sounds great?
Eliminate the "High Performance" part and just go with "works well" and "sounds great" (Sound is totally subjective, of course), and you will find quite a few. The Larini seems to be lately pretty popular and Ricambi has them at a good price.
Hoverview, How are you? I couldn't help but notice your post and I wondered if you saw our "Nouvalari-USA Group Buy" located within this forum? I can promise you that you'll love our 308 sport or supersport exhaust, which is available for a special price of $1500, including shipping, till Jan 31st. Check out our post and our website, www.nouvalari-USA.com, please email me any questions you may have. Thanks for your time. Mark [email protected]
I have (as well as many others here) a Tubi. It is a high quality product and sounds great but it is expensive. If I had to do it over I would probably go with Stebro. Not because it is any "better" but because it has removable inserts so you can customize your exhaust note whenever and wherever you want. Leave all 4 tips in and you get a great aftermarket sound, pull out one or two and get louder and throatier.Pull all four out and you almost need earphones - great for the track. When you get tired of it just replace the inserts. A few of us have had a problem or two with Stebro's customer service department but things seem to have worked themselves out.
Also, pull your cats off and put on Hyperflows. That will free things up a bit more. If you simply gut the cats or install a bypass pipe, you will get a pretty strong exhaust smell in the car. It's pretty bad. The Hyperflows stop that and make it feel like a test pipe is back there too.
I had Nouvalari put on this past summer and ran straight pipe ( depends on your states emissions controls). Very happy. Don
I removed the oem cat just for general principles (turned out to be unnecessary) on my 328 and installed an HF cat. THere was no difference in sound or anything else. Later I removed the HF Cat and installed a straight pipe because the "slow down" light system quit working and there is no current way to repair/replace the module. There was no obvious change in sound nor did the straight pipe cause any sort of odor. But maybe something about the 308 setup vs the 328 setup makes the results different.
No, the newer cats don't impact performance at all, so taking them off doesn't effect performance much at all.....
It's just a enrichment thing. My O2 sensor is disconnected. Long story but it runs better without it. Anyway, it would burn your eyes at a stoplight and I am not joking. I actually drove it like that for about 5 years or more. Finally I had enough and put the Hyperflow on. Love it.
Exhaust is one of the all time great threads, right behind timing belts and tires. It would help to know what 308 you have. 77 and prior have no cats and benefit greatly from unloading the heavy thermal reactor POS and the installation of just about anything else. 78 and up get into cats and you have to decide if you are going to retainthem or replace them with Hyperflows or do a "temporary" test pipe. When i got my 77, i immediately dumped the thermal reactor and had a custom muffler system built with a flowmaster and a pairof twin resonator tips, cost $650, including a stainless heat shield over the muffler. I balked at spending a tenth of the cars cost on a muffler, no matter how good it might sound, i had a lot to repair / upgrade and i needed to put the $$$ elsewhere. All of that aside, my best recommendation is for you to ride in several cars with different exhausts, for at least an hour, to see if you can stand the sound level/frequency. I have ridden a few cars that were so loud - even louder than my flowmaster- that i was sure i would never put that in my car. There are some really nice looking and sounding exhausts out there but YOU have to be able to take a trip in the car without having to use ear plugs - The flowmaster is almost at that point. The stories about guys buying zoomie systems then going back to stock or somethjing else are legion. Do the road tests - hth, chris ps. sorry about the spelling - new computer is having some difficulty, not that i was that hot to begin with :-0
But if you want jaw-dropping sound, there's nothing quite like a couple of glass-packs (see picture below the video) to render you audiotorily challenged. I wish the video came after the picture, but it doesn't, so I'll have to explain: In the picture below, the muffler that I put on the car after removing the glass-packs, is a Magnaflow. You can see in the attached picture - It is visible behind and below the bumper. Cost: $250. The following video is not my car, but it has the same exhaust and sounds like my car. Okay, spill the beans..... How did you mount the camera? Is it a cellphone? That's a teriffic shot...
Hoverview, I went with a Magnaflow system and it sounds fantastic and costs about half as much as a Larini and 1/3 as much as a Tubi. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j77BPZZ4r-o&feature=related[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8uaz38XtRY[/ame] 'Nuff said.
Wow those are so cool. BTW I love tunnels.. I was one of the first guys to buy a tubi when they first came with one for my car out and I love mine after all these years Yes it was expensive but at the time i was told they were making the F1 exhaust for Ferrari. The one I took off weighed about 75 pounds the tubi was as light as a feather i remember dancing around in the front yard with it I was so excited!!!! I love the different sounds the different exhausts make! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh yes! I've heard one on a carbed 308 around here. Very aggressive. Sounded great! If you have an early GTB, from Australia and sounding almost as good is the Mille Miglia. I ordered the "Classic" to keep appearance period correct... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
