Anybody out there with over 80,000 miles care to comment about any major work required? I watched this review and they suggest at 60k miles the engine is shot and needs a complete rebuild. My guess is they’re wrong. Only 8900 miles on mine, so a long way to go….[emoji2] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Why would a car that cost $350k new would need a engine rebuild at 60k. how does a YouTube content creator make such claim and no one else has? I have 46k on my car and looking forward to 100k.
I think the guy is talking out of his arse, to be frank. He's using one example to make a statement that all 458s will need rebuilt at 60k. Maybe the one that was rebuilt at 60k stayed in the redline all it's life. When my dad was a young man, he had a '66 389 GTO. At about 60-70k miles he had to rebuild the motor because the rings were so worn out it kept fouling plugs. Now consider the materials and coatings they use in these engines these days to reduce internal friction. I believe that if you change the oil regularly and do the required maintenance, 100k should be no problem, and likely more. I mean we've seen a few examples like the Vegas rental car, Hoovie's, etc.
I'd be shocked if wear isn't a lot more complicated than distance traveled. Age, storage conditions, use conditions, maintenance, tolerance of your build, etc, etc.
Dozens of documented 458’s with 100k miles. This guy lost his mind. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This guy is talking out of his a$$. There are plenty of high mileage 458’s out there to prove it. Just another bone head furthering the myth that Ferrari’s are unreliable. Clearly neither actually own one to know what the hell they’re talking about. The drive seemed to blow their minds though That’s the true F experience! Non-owners seriously think our cars live in the shop. Such nonsense being peddled.
That’s not a great before and after valve cleaning on a DI engine. The tool, shop air, technique or all of the above could be improved. But for those not familiar with cleaning the valves on a DI engine it’s a reasonably informative. This guy has an ok video on cleaning a DI engine. I like his zip tie trick but would sub the brake cleaner for Power Tune from Mercury Marine and go a little lighter on the quantity of solvent used.
Lack of use has much more of a negative impact on an engine than some mileage. Seals/gaskets dry out. Kind of like people if their parts aren’t moving. Regular maintenance on a car that is regularly driven is much more important. Period.
I saw that Savage Geese vid a while back and scratched my head at the engine rebuild comment. No clue where they got that from. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I only watched a few minutes, before turned of too the non-sense. Was the mileage disclosed on that car? I bought mine w/ 4,400 on the clock and now 3k miles more, she's still pristine inside and the aroma of the leather is still intoxicating!
I also saw the savage geese video. They talked like it was a well known fact that all 458s will need a rebuild at 60k miles. These guys also the think the Honda s2000 is one of the greatest sports cars ever made.
My buddy has 120,000 on his 458 italia. this photo was from January. He said only oil, tires and brakes otherwise no service issues. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Any expenses beyond standard services so far? I want to drive mine a lot more but mileage concerns and major unexpected costs are always in the back of my head. [emoji851] Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The more i drive it the better it gets. Sometimes electric gremlins come in or start button doesn't want to work, or right taillight error but then i just go put another 200 or so miles and back to normal lol
Not driving your Ferrari more WILL cause major unexpected costs and reliability issues. Drive the car! It’s not a museum piece F40 or Enzo here, it’s just a 458. In fact there is a guy on here who daily drives his Enzo and has 100k miles on it. Seriously the fear of people driving their Ferraris is just ridiculous. Go drive your car and drive her hard.
