Hey everyone new here so I’m not totally sure the rules but I wanted to get a general opinion. I’ve seen many talk about the durability of the 458 and I’m eyeing a local one that is priced aggressively with all the features/trim etc that I desire. It has 68,000 miles give or take. I haven’t yet seen the car or done a PPI but from what I can see it appears clean and has maintained a healthy service record. If I do a PPI and it comes back clean, is this a ridiculous idea to buy a Ferrari with that many miles? thanks in advance
I've seen members on here state they know of several 100k 458s. It is generally accepted to be perhaps the first Ferrari you could drive daily. I bought a '13 Spider last year with 49k miles. It was a one owner car and had been serviced regularly. Pending a good PPI, and a fair price, I say go for it. FYI, a complete DCT rebuild is about 20k, replacement 30k, engine rebuild 25k-50k. Those are your worst case scenarios for problems. Happy hunting.
If it has all the service records, and the price was reasonable, I'd say it's a go. However, I think the price has to also be ridiculously cheap too in my opinion. Consider what you could get the car for if the mileage was 100,000, because that might be what it will be when you sell it. For me, I'm not paying more than $125k for this car, regardless of spec. Other's will have different and equally valid opinions. Find out how much it will cost to have the cylinder heads cleaned because if it hasn't been done, it would be a good idea to have it done.
How long do you intend to keep the car? If you buy the car thru a dealer will they give you a warranty? At 100K inspect the brakes rotors, fuel pumps, DCT go with a 2014 or later, and engine. Paint and interior need to be well preserved too Good Luck My 458 has 137K Don’t believe it? You can read about my car in TOFM, the edition of the F8 debut, VOL 42, pg 20
Saw this on an authorized Ferrari dealership's website: "Every Ferrari that is eligible for a New Power Warranty must pass a 101-point mechanical check system. All vehicle service must have been performed at an Official Ferrari dealer to qualify.............Coverage applies to vehicles with a maximum 55,913 miles." So any defects or issues, you're on your own I guess at 68k miles....
In the final analysis, the market determines the price. A 1960s Ferrari has no warranty, no limit to financial repair risks—no safety net! Yet if rare and coveted, some of those cars trade for 50-70 million— mileage isn’t even discussed. So for the 458 where plenty of cars exist, my advice is to buy the best car at a fair price. Buy a 2014 or 2015 at the cheapest price. One that is well taken care of , single owner, and complete documentation and with all the proper maintenance
Not sure what country you are in But id want a substantial discount and how much would depend on maintenance records And a comp test also at that mileage a transmission replaced or some parts changed I personally believe a well mentained example is better than low km not That’s assuming you actually plan to drive the car A few friends with cars barely do 1-2000km per year An absolute waste in my opinion Unless of course u own that many cars anyway
Adam has 100k on his 458. https://instagram.com/aweh458?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= 458 is an amazing car. Buy it and drive it
All good suggestions / comments above and note that even though you wouldn't qual for a Ferrari power warranty. I am sure you can find an aftermarket one to cover it. I'd say go for it if all checks out and make sure the inspection catches the year of the tires....
Buy and enjoy, coming from someone who had a 80k mile Scuderia. Modern Ferrari's are pretty good cars
Hey there, I bought a 2010 458 with 132k miles all original! I wanted a good driver and boy oh boy is it ever! The exterior and interior were almost perfect with full PPF except for the roof liner and sticky buttons which I have had to fix. I changed a radiator and front shocks and voila. its a tank. I would say that if the car has an in depth service history that its a good sign.
I say pull the trigger. They are good cars and you are going to have more fun than anyone because you are not going to be worried about deprecation or value or other such crazy things
wow I am so glad I found this post. when we make the purchase the car has 56k miles with one owner and detail service record Hopefully a long way to go
How do you get your 458 spider or coupe to approach the Speciale Lose weight? Upgrade the interior to all carbon fiber ( steering wheel, paddles, dash inserts, door panels, central console) Upgrade the rims to forged Upgrade the exterior trim to Ferrari carbon (rear diffuser , front canards , rear fog light surrounds) Upgrade the factory silencers to the sport street legal) Upgrade the exhaust tips to the titanium Ferrari tips Upgrade the battery to the Braille Lithium ION Upgrade the wheel lugs to Ferrari Titanium Upgrade to the Michelin Pilot Super sport 4s (lighter than the P tire) ‘Now I can sleep soundly’
Cut open the oil filter and ask to look for metal flakes And of course do a compression/ leak down and a boroscopic test
