I just put a set of 18" Michelin Pilot sport low profile tires and rims on my 1988.5 TR. I would appreciate some advice on what tire pressure to run in them. Can someone tell me the factory recommended tire pressure on the 512TR? Thanks. pd

Thanks guys. I was running 38 all the way around and I thought that the ride was a little to stiff. I will use the 35F/34rear. pd

I just spoke to someone at Tire Rack about the issues of proper pressure for going plus 1 or plus 0 on tires/wheels packages. He had inform me that if the overall diameter, width and load of the car has not changed, regardless of the wheel size or tire profile, you should stay and use whatever the manugacture recommended pressure is, which is 38psi all around. If not, uneven tire wear could occur.

Anthony, I appreciate the response but this does not sound right to me. It also begs the question as to why the 512TR would use the 35F/34R pressures even though I understand that the suspensions are different between the two cars. A lower profile tire has more sidewall stiffness than a normal (high profile) tire so logic would suggest that the reommended tire pressure would be lower --- I think ???

TR Mark, I will post some pictures as soon as I have a chance. pd

That's what I was told and explained. It is from someone that works at Tire Rack, and someone who has a pretty good reputation in another Auto-Forum that I visit often. If you think about it, it is actually not that off the wall. As many has pointed out on other posts, the 512TR is a completely different car than the TR. The overall weight and the weight distrubution are different, the supsension setup/geometry is completely different, the chasis is about as different as it can be as one has a sub-frame and the other does not. And I think the tracks may also be different as well, not sure about this one. Anyway, my point is, because they are two different models. Think of it this way, if the 512TR weights 3600lbs vs. TR at 3800lbs, by putting the same amount of air in the TR as you would in a 512TR, wouldn't you be under-inflating the tires if the overall dimension of the tires/wheels has not changed? Anyway, I have heard this from more than one person in the past and this is where I got it from most recently as I (Tifosi) asked the question on the Audi forum: http://www.audiworld.com/forum/wheel.html Just scroll down to the post regarding upgrading to 17" wheels/tires for an A6.

    :)

Thanks for the reply Anthony but now I am officially confused. Here are some pictures of the wheel/tire combination. The wheels are titanium and made by Ronal. They have a web site for anyone interested. pd

Sorry!! I was just trying to help and pass along what I have been told and explained, that's all. Also, remember your first post, you stated that you car's ride was stiff, don't forget that you have gone up 2 sizes on the wheels, and they are suppose to make the ride more stiff as that is the whole point as when someone wants to improve handling on their cars by going with larger rims.

The car looks really nice with those wheels on.
