Last week my daily driver (Jaguar) went into the shop for some minor repairs. Since that time, I have been driving a Rolls since it is the only other car I have with 4 seats. During the past several days I have had 4-5 cars attempt to follow me to work and to my home. This has never happened to me before even with the Ferrari. Why are these people so interested in the damn car that they are following me home?

What really scared me last night was a car with several men who were obviously not from the local neighborhood following me. For a few minutes I really thought I had a serious problem. Since I have to pass the police station on the way home, I pulled into the police lot and the other car kept going. For the next week I will no longer drive straight home and I am going to keep a baseball bat in the car for easy access. I live in NJ, so carrying a gun is not an option for me.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Ken

I've had people follow me for a while but I NEVER let them see where I live. I'll ditch them by taking side roads through the neighborhood or just drive around until I lose them. Drive to a local police or fire station if you have to. (in slower cars) But NEVER let them see where you live.

I never drive home when being followed. As I stated, I drive to the police station before going home.

It might help to have a large camera that you can at least appear to be taking pics of them with.... I have found it works very well in making aggressive drivers back off.

    Good policy.

For additional privacy, never have a car registered in your name with your home address. It's too easy for a thug to get tag info and know where you live.

While I understand it's illegal where you live, I find the comfort of a .45 and an FAL in the car to be soothing.

Or...you could do as a friend of mine has done. He drives some cars that get lots of attention. He decided to have some fun with it. He always takes his camera with him on drives and when he gets people following a little too long he begins to point and drive erratically while excitedly talking to his passenger and taking photographs of the people looking at him. In particular I find the pictures of the people taking pictures of his car amusing. In short, turn the tables on them.

I never take the same route home. I too have noticed people following me, but it seems they get tired of it when it appears that I am lost, they usually back off. If they seem too interested I just jump back on the fwy, that usually works out.
Our home is our sacred ground!!

Never thought of this! great idea.
I have acted like I was writing down the plate of their car.
or, look at them, with not the nicest look on my face, and pretend to dial the phone. That has worked on occasion too.

Isn't it pathetic? we can't even drive around without worrying about these idiots!!

If you think you are being followed

Never go to your final destination (work/home)

    Police/fire station are good tactics

Call 911 and say you are experiencing a "road rage" incident...they seem to be taking these more seriously lately. Also, if you think it's the same people, they will then know you have the ability to call it in.

    Sorry to hear.

Or you can just probably shake them off at intersections. Make a proper left turn on them at the very last minute.

I would do that when I'm being followed.

That is bad. What type of Rolls do you have? I am just curious. I have owned many RR from Shadows to Spurs and most never paid them any attention especially the Spur since it is boxy. People can't seem to leave my Fcars alone.

Never bothered with that. I drive home if that's my plan. I'll even leave the cars in the driveway if I have to do stuff in the garage. Never been robbed. Ever. Heck, I can't remember how many times I forgot the keys in the ignition of the truck for days at a time.
I guess it helps to live in a nice neighborhood (not "rich" neighborhood, just average houses with nice people). And have a 140lbs black lab.

    Viva Canada, eh! :D

I always drive past my street and go up several more and hang a U-turn. that ussually helps as they don't typically make the u-turn with me.

Had that happen in the 308 once. A guy pulled right in my driveway behind me. Ended up chatting with him for a half hour. He was a retired gentleman and just curious about the car.

With the Rolls you could be right and they figure you got some bucks and want to check out where you live. When people see my house they immediately know I put more money into cars than furnishings.

I agree with the others in that you should see if it is the same people and give their license plate number to the police.

also be careful not to let the car that is possibly following you to box you in with a car in front of you at a traffic light. no joke but haven't you ever seen that in the movies?

Unless you have it registered with a business or someplace else. Still, I agree with trying to get their plate # & driving to the closest police department. Its worked for me.

    Very good suggestion.

I always leave at least a car length in front of me, and it was a friend's suggestion years ago. It paid off!

I was on 98th Street in Oakland one day heading East bound and stopped for a light in the left lane.

One of the brothers was ahead of me in the classic olds/buick/cadillac wreck. He was going nuts and threw it into reverse with considerable gusto.

I immediately pulled across the double yellow line to my left and took off while he proceeded to back up at high spped creaming the car that was stopped behind me.

    He was definitely on something!

Very good idea to always leave yourself an out. If I had not had that, I would have been dealing with a few brothers who were definitely not stable!

This is really sad that people with nice cars have to constantly be nervous of crap like this. Although to some extent you have to realaize that when you buy a car like a Ferrari, lambo, rolls etc. that the added attention comes with the territory.
As i do not have a Ferrari i havent dealt with stuff quite like this but I have driven my freinds custom 32 ford that draws alot of attention and have had people follow you for a while but not to the extent of following me home.
