    We own 3 acres next to our construction shop in Garland, and want to build a car storage / mini warehouse facility there. I have been to a couple of the facilities just south of Love Field, and they are the large old warehouse with car spaces along the walls in the the middle. No separate car storage there.

    My idea is to have several types of product. One would be the more open storage with a space you would rent for a car or boat, just like the others are doing. The other would be separate bays, separated by concrete block walls, and with it's own garage door opener, for a more secure private setup. Then we would mix in some standard storage units on one end. I would like an office area, and a game room with pool-fooseball and a slot car track , with TV and seating area. Also would provide a locker room with showers for cleanup. I would have a couple of bays with lifts for working on the cars, as well as air to all private bays. I would build a manager's residence at the front, and have 24 hour onsite representation. Would also plan on full security camera system and lighting.

    Here are the questions;
    What size would you want for the single bay unit. 10' x 15' or 10' x 20' or do we need to go wider?

    Is putting a ceiling on the single bays important for feeling secure? How high do the walls need to be?

    What size would a 2 car unit need to be?

    Would you need it heated and air conditioned? The group storage usually has heaters but only fans to circulate the air.

    Would having a mechanic operating out of the facility be important?

    If $200 per month is the going rate on group storage, would you be willing to spend $300 for a private bay?

    Would monthly maintenence and or keeping the cars running be important?

    What are your thoughts on this?
    Thanks
    phil

    Consensus from F/chat USGP watching party was for secure separate units with block walls and ceilings. Size would be 15' x 24-25' for the upper end units. I'm really just looking for a spot to stick an old commercial slot car track to play around with.

    Sorry, late to the thread, I agree you need 11' minimum for standard garage door and even then it feels door banging tight...

    15' sounds good to me.....

    When you get to lighting, check back! LOL!

    That was my fathers main concern in building his garage.

    We put up atleast 42 or more 6 (or 8) foot fluorescent light bulbs in rows of 6.
