I had purchased an 89 Mondial T in the fall of last year, and now with the more frequent spring showers I am finding that when raining, water pours in at the top of both side windows, dripping onto the seats and the floor.

    Is this a common problem?

Aside from installing a car cover every time it rains is there a simple remedy for this?

Does it leak when you are driving or only when stationary?

You should check the alignment of the little rubber gutters on the top of the doors. If they are missing you should replace them

Then adjust the roof as best you can to minimize the gaps based on the roof adjustment threads. Then if it still leaks, there are sticky putty-like materials that you will find in any body shop (I don't know the exact name of this putty-like material) that can be shaped to avoid leaks. It takes a bit of playing with it to get it right but it is worth the trouble.

    Good luck.

Thanks for responding, the roof leaks both when stationary and when moving.

Will have another look and try your suggestion...

It should not leak from the sides when stationary, the top should be over the tops of the windows. Mine leaked at the front onto the passenger visor. The seal was hard and misshapen in that place so I got a new rubber seal for the top of the windshield frame from Ricambi. Being a convertible I'd think a little water is inevitable but sounds like you have too much. The door glass should be slight pressed against the top and a portion of top should hang out over it as well. Maybe take some pictures of where your door glass meets the top and the corners where door/windshield/top meet.

Mine leaks there when wet as well, but not in the expected sense.

I guess the top is a bit tired and not waterproof. The fat bolsters just inside the top of the window get saturated and start to drip if it is wet for a long time. Something to look into, you could give them a squeeze.

Of course, without gutters it dumps water into the car if you pen the door during a rain, so I'm not sure it makes a big difference.

I have noticed that my rear window sometimes don't go into the little loop at the top to hold them in place and don't seal as they should, although I don't think they've ever leaked.

    Good luck.

Convertibles leak, at least in my experieince Fiat, Alfa, MG, Chrysler, Caddilac, and Packards do--
Get used to it or park them under cover when it rains.
    And I love em anyhow.

I understand that the rubber seal is very expensive. Has anyone tried to find a seal that seals better and is less costly. There are all kinds of rubber profiles advertised for restoration of every type of car. Has anyone looked at these?

I love Ricambi but apparently simple things at high prices are hard to swallow.

    Kind regards,

Just under $600 for a piece of foam rubber. Somehow I won't go to movies because they cost too much for what you get, but I'm willing to do this, and I'm a salary man.

I was getting the top replaced and I didn't have time to play with it so I just spent the money. Also I'm taking the car on a long journey in all weather this summer so I didn't want any excuses or weak points.

The new one I got appeared to be 3 pieces glued together. The large center which is a consistent size and shape, then the two ends. I suppose it would be possilble to easily replace the center if the ends aren't misshapen. I should have asked for the old seal back.
