I know next to nothing about watches...so I turn to the fchat brain trust for help.

We found this hiding in a drawer at my late grandfather's house. We think he bought it in around 1975.

Quick google search turns up some interesting and varied info, but nothing concrete. Local jeweler/appraiser can't help. I think it's a 7169? Any insight appreciated.

Mainly trying to get it insured at this point, I figure 20k or so USD? No papers or anything. Rolex bracelet of some sort.

Apologies for the mostly terrible pics, the lighting wasn't the best. Not sure why they rotated either. :(

Take off the bracelet and the area between the lugs will give you the model number (12:00 lugs), and the serial # (6:00 lugs). The serial number will give you an idea as to the age of the watch.

I believe you have a 7159. There is some history of the reference on the Tudor website and there are a lot of comprehensive articles and even some websites dedicated to them.

Be careful, the use of Rolex parts and some common Valjoux movements makes them easy to near perfectly replicate and there are very few qualified appraisers.

Thanks to you both. I'll remove the bracelet and have a look next time I go there.

@cls, it does indeed look more like a 7159. Thanks for that. I guess I'll have to bring it to Birks in Montreal (where it was bought) and see if they can help.

I'd see if they have any info by serial #. Birks is always worth a visit though, that square has some great Montreal history. Those watches are pretty rare, I'd guess $15K USD, but maybe someone in the business will chime in.
