My spider did not come with headrest horse stitches option . Anyone knows if this can sewn on now ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have the cavallino stitched into my seats. Having said that, I can only postulate the following: Your cavallino is embossed/raised. In standard configuration this approach is not used prior to stitching. Therefore, stitching into it may pose a problem. Hard to believe they can match stitch exactly. In regards to who can stitch for you, dealer - depending on number of classics they have restored previously - may be able to refer you to their "leather guy". If they have none, perusing old issues of Forza should give you the names of the best restorers who I am sure have insight into who can do this. You could always ask dealer parts department to price out new headrests with stitching to use as guide for maximum cost. If you have to have headrest leather replaced to have stitching done, cost could be prohibitive. Although, based on how I optioned my spider, prohibitive got thrown out by desire! Good luck. randy
I very much doubt this is possible . The way the emboss is put in to the leather is via a vacform with gel Ferrari piece. The gel Ferrari piece stays stuck to the other side of the leather for the rest of time. For that reason it will not be possible to stitch through the leather and gel piece. If that important you will need a new heard rest my guess. Where are you based ?
good advice above I believe you can (reasonably easily) pop the headrests off the seats. You will likely need a GOOD automotive leather expert to remove the covers, make a pattern, and make you a color-matched new cover that can be embroidered. Given that may take time, you have a spider and it's springtime, you may want to wait until winter The cost and hassle would be something you would have to weigh. There is a shop local to us, Coachtrim LLC, in Danbury CT that does Ferrari restoration and repair work, they are phenomenal and use (real) OEM materials. (no affiliation, but they have a super reputation and we've used them for trim work). I am sure there are other expert-level options out there.
Haha - me too, just arrived ! Based in London where I could have put you in touch with two of the best trimmers but sadly can't help you here...
Did you talk to your dealer? I think you should be able to remove your headrests and replace them with new ones which are stitched the way you want. Red, yes? Or is it that you want to get them stitched by someone other than the factory? You probably can find someone in your local market who would be willing to do that too. They could probably remove any unneeded plastic gel material. Stitch them with red thread and then replace the gel. Anyway it doesn't seem like a mission impossible. Of course it will cost more than if you had ordered the cavallino option from the factory in the first place. My question is why didn't you? Was it to save money or did you think it was unnecessary? But after all Ferrari would like you to spend every last cent with them. You must draw the line somewhere! I bet your salesman suggested it. In my spider, I agonized about all the options too. I decided to spend more on carbon fiber goodies and eschewed the contrasting stitching and stitched cavallinos. Personally, do what makes you happy!
I did not order it as option as there is 115% tax on every option ! Also , the leather embossed horse seemed great looking . I also thought the horse would be blocked by the passenger heads most of the time . I must admit the colour stitching does make the car more dimensional especially when it is parked without passengers. I will ask the dealer if it is possible to make the stitches now . If the cost is prohibitive , then I. would try other ways .
My advice would be to just order a set of new headrests with the stitching that you want. Of course it would be expensive. But then you will get exactly what you want. And if you can afford a 458 Spider new rather than used you probably have the cash! So what is the the point of your thread? My car did not come with an option that I want now? I decided to omit the option because I thought it was too expensive? Now you want someone to miraculously come to your rescue. To sew them on for next to nothing and do a job better than Ferrari! What if next week you change your mind? Someone sewed on these horses and I don't like them! Please help me! But then you can order some new headrests from Ferrari with stitched horses. It isn't that bad!
Malibuguy - I think you are getting a bit overly worked up about this, it's a perfectly decent enough question.
The leather in a 458 is sourced from Poltrona Frau. So if you wanted to order leather to match, you would get exactly What Ferrari uses.
Leave it the way it is, looks fine, I would be worried about someone not getting the stitching right if you changed it. A lot of hastle for an option that you can't see when you drive the car.
+1. Seems more trouble than it's worth. I had mine done in silver to match the deviates stitching and Titanio exterior. It was over a grand iirc.
Hey Arc, What did you decide to do? Did you get some prices on the new head rests from Ferrari vs custom stitched headrests done in HK? How much were they? I think your car looks fine the way it is. You already have a very well specced car with the daytona seat option and contrasting inserts. The red horses might look nice but then they might be a little over the top. I mean are you the type who wears a bright red Ferrari racing suit, red driving gloves and red driving shoes too! I know some guys even want their girl to wear a red Ferrari baseball cap when they take the car somewhere. Nothing wrong with that either!
I am going to ask my dealer to arrange for the stitching . Most likely they will order a new pair of headrest from maranello , and they won't be cheap . Yes I do like wearing ferrari gear in driving the ferrari . Live a Ferrari life to the fullest ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice gloves! Hey so this might be a little far fetched but here goes. Since your interior color is a common one, beige, I think, if you knew someone or your dealer knew someone who is expecting their car in the next few months and didn't want the horses, maybe that person could order them and then swap them for yours. You would pay for the option and then maybe pay the new owner a little something too for the swap. I know its a long shot that anyone would want to do that.
I agree that it seems to be a very long shot ! On hindsight , the stitched horse is one option that I should include !
