Anybody recommend a good place to stay? Probably spend 2-3 days in Dublin and 7 days in the countryside.

    Thanks

I don't want to sound too sniffy but Dublin has not been in the United Kingdom for about a hundred years

Nicest hotel I've stayed in in Dublin (and I've stayed in many) is the Shelbourne.

Dublin 5-Star Luxury Historic Hotel | The Shelbourne Dublin, A Renaissance Hotel

Overlooking a nice park called Stephens Green and with a taxi rank nearby, shops nearby etc its a really good location without being noisey.

If thats not your sort of hotel/wrong price range etc let me know and Ill suggest others.

Its about a 25-30 min walk to Croke Park or you can catch the train quite cheap and Croke Park has its own station.

Just got back from Dublin and London. Stayed at the Gresham in Dublin. Good location, but a little small and inconsistent (rooms had different ways of turning on lights, different shower sizes etc).

Can't say I'd recommend it but wouldn't trash it either. Not a bad option.
