Just completed wrapping up the headers in Titanium exhaust wrap and snapped some pictures to demonstrate the completed product. The wrap can be a decent alternative to the blanket approach. For me, this method takes up considerably less room and in turn radiating less heat.
The newer Titanium wrap is made from pulverized lava rock which is said to improve thermal performance by withstanding heat at 1800F. It doesn't discolour and costs a fraction of the alternative solutions. The wrap come with stainless steel ties allowing you to anchor the heat wrap. You can see the SS ties on each of the collectors and individual port tubes.

Looks great. Seems to be a good alternative. Header blankets are overpriced anyway in my opinion.

Nope, it doesn't need to extend that far. I left an inch or so exactly because of access to the bung. The focus for wrapping is mitigating any radiant heat non OE headers are known to produce. The warranty applies to headers that are exposed to severe elements or daily use of year round commuting. The majority of us will not see such exposure; so there shouldn't be worries about "warranty".

Any chance if them unwrapping or is it pretty tight? I thought about this for my S-line.

No chance of unwrapping. Once you get the first few looped and overlapped it's pretty much anchored. At the end of wrapping a pipe you secure it using the SS tie. It's actually pretty easy for a DIY project.

To each their own and it's your ride. Do what you will.

I've been an intensive automotive hobbyist/enthusiast for over 30 years. If I saw that wrap job it would say alot.

Let us know how it works out. Can you please take some temp readings after a drive?

I had the same wrap on the manifold and down pipe from the turbo of a Toyota Supra and made a massive difference. Could almost touch with bare had after a drive. When I get a new exhaust for my Ferrari I'll be doing the same. Is a great product.

Well done. Looks better than the blankets imo. Not that you can really see them in the engine bay. Wrap is not recommended with steel pipes, something about the pipes rotting/rusting out. Can't see an issue with stainless pipes though.

I was planning on doing this with my headers but decided to use the blankets. They are thicker and have more insulating properties. I still have the DEI wraps....Maybe I will do both.

If you have steel pipes you can probably ceramic coat them (cheap coating, the non-Zircotec one) them then apply the exhaust wrap.

Looking good guys, great job. It may not be necessary, but it's always nice to have some kind of heat wrap/blanket setup for extra reassurance with keeping the exhaust heat in a more confined area no matter what kind of platform or the power output.

I was thinking about this since I hate the look of blanket. Good job!

Anyone have actual temperatures before and after these installs?

Andrie, you can't really see the blanket, you have to really look for it.

I haven't measured the temp in my car with the blankets but I can tell you it is much cooler, night and day.

With a car known to require a change from the OE manifold to one of the aftermarket headers sold by our sponsors and the requirement to wrap or put a blanket to reduce heat in the engine compartment please explain what you meant by that.

With your 30+ years in the business what does that wrap say to you?
Trying to learn as much as possible!

Thanks Glen. Always looking to give back to a great community.

Hey Lars. Winter is awesome if only for the projects. I got sick and still am since Xmas so I'm a bit behind schedule. I have plugs and front bushes on the list also. Looking forward to spring!

Nice job. Good idea leaving space for the bung.
