Any hints on how to get old baked on gaskets off alloy? I have been scraping them off with an upright razor blade for the best part of two weeks now and tried - kero, thinners, WD40, CRC gasket dissolver and the steam mop. The only thing that seems to soften them at all so far has been Bowdens citric cleaner. Any tips or suggestions on what has worked for you is greatly appreciated. Maybe you could try a D-Limonene based cleaner (or even pure D-Limonene). That's basically turpentine made out of citrus. Wood chisels are much more efficient than razor blades.
That's how I cleaned my gasket. a jar full of cleaner, soak the chisel, scrap the gasket until chisel is dry, soak again, scrap (repeat ...). I must confess it did work perfectly on my left head, but when I finally decided to perform a complete overhaul, I brought the right head to the machinist.
Thanks for the replies. I picked up some of this today to try - https://www.bunnings.com.au/de-solv-it-750ml-multi-purpose-cleaner_p4460065 It contains 20% D-Limonene so I'll see how it goes. Cheers, Al
