Where in NC? We looked in Asheville and could not find anything we liked. We are in Houston now and looking for a retirement spot. What do you suggest in the mountains?

What are you looking for in a home? There are so many parameters in choosing a home it's hard to respond with any advice w/o knowing.

We are about 30 miles W of Asheville near the small town of Waynesville. Prices in this Haywood County [where we live] are less than Buncombe County [Asheville]. While it's out in the country Waynesville has grocery/Walmart/Lowes needs there are some nice restaurants that seem to be added each year. Asheville is a 35 minute ride where there are many-many fantastic restaurants and entertainment offerings. The airport is also convenient.

Not sure I understand Asheville then Houston. To me the climate and the surroundings are key for retirement. After living in FL for 18 years I have had enough of 6 months of hot & humid weather. Here in the mountains at 3500' a hot day in summer is 80 degrees. I am a yankee [born in DE] so cold weather doesn't bother me. Especially since winters are fairly short and not severe here in the WNC mountains.

Would be glad to try to help if you can tell me what appeals and what is important to you.

    cheers

Hi. Sorry, I wasn’t very clear. My wife and I both grew up in the Raleigh Durham area and moved to Texas many years ago. We are looking to retire back in the Georgia to Carolina area. Looking for nice roads to drive our Mondial on. Many of the homes we looked at in Asheville were either stuck on the side of the mountain with limited access or very close quarters neighborhoods. We are also tired of the long hot summers of Houston and looking for relief. The AC on the Mondial is not the greatest. Waynesville sounds interesting. I will look it up. Thanks.

    Texas!
Biggest weather negative is 40 degrees and wet during the winter months. It can make driving on those mountain roads treacherous. Having an AWD is handy. Slowing down is also handy.

    Awww the hunt never stops...

Hah! It did take the spot!
Thank you, the previous owner registered it out of state...
    Many thanks!
Thanks for the many words of advice, helped me a ton through the process!! Couldn’t have done it without ya!
Very much appreciated! I did end up selling the CGT, 16M, Ghost and MSV for the F40 but bought another MSV. The 16M is/was a very special car and I plan to circle back to this and the CGT some day. It will be missed.

Thanks Mike! I’ll be posting a review and journey shortly. There’s a lot to absorb with this iconic car.
    Thanks much!
    Appreciate it very much!
Thank you Ross, also, thank you for your advice along the way...very helpful to speak with owner’s experiences.

Though it’s been quite a few months since owning it, I haven’t been able to drive it much during the COVID era. However, learning about the F40 through all 6 senses makes an appreciation of this mechanical artwork anything but ephemeral.

Congratulations! How does it feel to hit this level? The smell, the first drives? Where are you going to take it out?

Thanks Ry, that’s such a great question, which makes me think...I don’t know about levels, but the passion in cars is a journey that’s just extraordinary...it’s likely endless for many of us because I have some friends with amazing collections that continue to inspire me and others. But the common thread and the phenomenal people I’ve met through cars is such an awesome experience. My best friends, colleagues and experiences have been intertwined through cars.
I had a recent friend who had a 355 years ago and sold it as he was building his family, massive respect for him for this. He finally just got a 458...I felt almost more excited for him than when I got my F40 simply because the sacrifice he made and the patience he had for years in attaining his next F car outweighed my efforts to attain my car IMHO.
It’s just a damn fun hobby!

Oh, but yes, the first drive and as you say, the smell, is a stark recollection of a time capsule back to the 80’s...

yes. it's always the Ferrari smell that kicks the brain into the first gear, the sounds the second gear, and so forth.

    So happy for you.
