I love watching this show with my 4 and 7 year olds. Lots of giggles as middle aged athlete-wanna-bees go through obstacle courses. The thing is, a lot of these folks seems to undergo a serious battering on this show. They show 300 lb women get catapaulted backwards off semi rigid obstacles. Folks get wacked by lightly padded rods hitting their knees and back at 25mph. I can't imagine that many serious injuries haven't occured.

To me, it looks like EVERY contestant is injured? I don't know how these folks walk the next day...or week...

How the heck do they manage that? I am sure they have the contestants signs tons of disclaimers, but still... Anyone know?

I suspect that the contestants simply sue the docs, completing the circle of life. <cue Lion King theme song>

Wipeout looks like the English version of MXC.. which it probably is. Very similar anyway.

MXC is kind of funnier, probably because of the awesome voiceovers :D

My brother-in-law was a contestant on Wipeout a few months ago, and his episode airs in early September! He's in very good shape, and made it to the final round.

That said, he couldn't walk normally for close to a month. He was in so much pain, he had trouble removing his shoes to go through airport security on his way back home. (It was actually an injury he sustained in the 3rd round that ultimately cost him the game)

I didn't ask, but I'm assuming that everyone signs waivers to prevent lawsuits from happening..

im 100% sure they sign waiver to release them from liability. unless the show is grossly negligent, then contestants might have a shot... but not much. you assume the risk when you get on the show
