Kudos to Mazda. Catch one of their candy apple red cars in the sunlight, and it really pops. I think this color would look great on Portofino. Just curious.

If you are referring to Mazda's : Soul Red Crystal Metallic , I also think it looks like Candy Apple Red. I recall seeing a Candy Apple Red Mustang Shelby or Eleanor in my youth and that was a big trigger

When I first saw the Mazda in person I laughed and thought they did this better than some of Ferrari's' 3 layer colors. Looking at the Ferrari configurator it looks like Rosso 70 Anni or Ross Ferrari F1-75 is the closest.

Good on Mazda , but still not buying :D

It was like a chameleon - the color changes with the lighting. And hard to get the true color in a photo. I replaced the 355 with an F430 that is Rosso Rubino Micalizzatto, a much darker shade of red.

Attached is a side by side photo of some of the reds in this thread.

My opinion - I think that Rosso Maranello is the closest to "candy apple red". It really pops in the sun light. Rosso Fuoco is a bit darker. And Rosso Fiorrano has a bit more orange/copper tints ( hard to tell from my poor photo alone)

From left to right: Rosso Maranello, Rosso Fuoco, Rubino Micalizzato, and Rosso Fiorrano.

In this second photo I am comparing Rosso Maranello and Rosso Fuoco.

Real Candy Apple Red is base coat of metallic bright silver or gold then a translucent color coat (red in this case) and finally a clearcoat. Very hard to get color coat right. Anywhere it overlaps it is darker. The new paints do a pretty good job of mimicking candy colors but do not have the depth of a real candy paint job.

Rosso Fiorano was my favorite shade of red for a very long time. Fuoco and Maranello are absolutely gorgeous.

Rosso Fiorano here. In person, it is actually much deeper than photographs and changes depending on the light - I’ve never been able to capture the true depth of it. Gets a ton of compliments.
