+1 on these folks. Roy turned me onto them a couple weeks ago. I just switched the policy on my Countach from Hagerty and saved almost $800 a year.

What counts with an insurance policy the most is what happens when you file a claim. I switched from Grundy to Hagarty a while back when someone pointed out some exclusions Grundy had in their contract language, but I've never filed a claim with either.

I have heard several stories from friends about getting excellent, "no hassles" claims treatment from Hagarty, but no information lately. Any updates on any of these companies from a claims standpoint?

I have heard about this company and was wondering if it is the best of these type of insurance companies. My 16M and Exige are currently with State Farm. Looking to insure a CGT.

they seem to focus/specialize in older cars, those are by far the best rates we get, but won't turn you away either, call them Insurance for Collector Cars and Collectibles | American Collectors Insurance, 1-800-360-2277

    Bringing up the insurance thread.

Got an email from Hagerty for renewal. Surprisingly, it seems my rate is close to doubling. From around $2100 to $3900.
Will call them this week and will report back. Probably reassessed the vintage Lamborghini values! I was going to raise the Countach value with them but maybe they already did.

I have no problem shopping around in the other companies mentioned here and will do it.

It will be interesting to see your new agreed upon value. When my renewal came it at the same value the premium didn’t change. Upping the agreed upon value caused the premium to go up at almost the same rate.

I left Hagerty for Heacock when I added the Countach to the policy. I remember they wanted a lot more to insure the Countach . All my other cars were around the same, but the Countach was not reasonable

  9. I'm guessing your 930 is with Heacock? They were charging me about the same as the Countach so I moved my 930 to State Farm. On that car surprisingly State Farm was cheaper, better coverage & 7500 miles a year. The rest of my cars are still with Heacock.

I have heard a lot of positive feedback about state farm here on the boards. The only concerns I have with State Farm is with the claims. When ever I have a car in my shop that has an insurance claim and State Farm is the insurer, I know the client will get short changed on the repair. They always look for the cheapest way out. My brother in law is a state farm agent and he never debates that fact with me

  11. All insurance companies will take the cheapest way out. State Farm is not different. My wife's car got hit (not her fault) by A SF insured driver. They would only pay for generic parts, and when I complained to my insurance, Nationwide, they said the same thing. The parts fit terrible, alignments were off badly, it was a complete joke and this was at a dealer body shop. I complained to the shop manager, and he said exactly what I feared. There is no way to make China parts fit. I was told to bring it back and they would fix the alignments of the panels/look into it/blah blah. 2 weeks later the paint started raising up on the bumper cover. At this point I told my agent it need to be fixed correctly or I was done with Nationwide. I took it back & got it fixed correctly. A complete redo with factory parts.

Another SF story is on a friends car. A 98 Viper. He supercharged it, made custom parts, etc. Long story short the car got totaled. SF wanted to issue a check for low book value, he argued it & got it appraised. He got a check for $118k. Unbelievable. And it was not an agreed value policy.

The viper appraisal was after the fact? Done after the loss??? Don't u have to have it on file with them, and update it often?

That is amazing with your Viper buddy. Usually a modified vehicle is the easiest way out for an insurance company (especially if it is not documented with them). 118K for a 98 Viper is about 3x what they are worth. No one in their right mind would pay near that, modified or not. But you are correct, that is how most insurance companies handle claims (try to write the smallest check possible). But, some are better with the claims process than others. I deal with them on this level quite frequently.

  14. The appraisal was after the fact. This was several years ago, IIRC the Viper (1998) had a book value of around 45k.

As I am thinking of changing companies, does anyone have any facts in regards to the actual policies offered by these 2 companies?

In short, if Heacock quotes you a price which is more than half Hagerty's quote, is it because Heacock is giving lesser coverage or is it because Hagerty is overcharging for theirs?

I would rather overpay for great coverage, than underpay for lesser coverage.

    Thanks

I have a mix of classic, super cars and exotic and I have been very happy with hagerty. Great and polite service service. I likr thr agreed price aspect also.

I also get free tow on my cars up to 50 miles. I have only used it once.

The price seems fair but I will do a price check next time it is up. I do this from time to time insurance costs tend to creep up over time. I am not sure Hagerty is doing this but always good to check.

I've been with Hagerty for years, but got quoted less than half for higher agreed values from Heacock. Makes you wonder if there's something fishy going on, or I've been paying too much.

That is why I switched from Hagerty to Heacock. Same values different rates. The thing you have to find out is how they handle claims. I have never had to deal with either of the two, so I cant really say who is better. I can say they both had equal financial ratings when I last checked .

The only Hagerty service I had was with my 458. The car was new, maybe a few months. I had a small fire so I called hagerty. I had two people call me to help with the repairs plus towing and any other help I needed. I was impressed. Meanwhile I called the dealer who is an hour away. They had a flat bed truck to me in 12 minutes. plus they gave me a loaner to use if I needed it.

As I think of it my wife in her Mercedes was taking our granson to GA tech where he is studying Elec engineering. My wifes car had a massive tire failure. Her car is not covered by hagerty. They came anyway and fixed the problem. She was in the middle of nowhere. That was very gracious of them to do that. I will stay with them as I think of this, Loyalty goes both ways

(Sarcastically) happy to report that Hagerty has caught on. The other companies will be quick to catch on too. They know the Countach has gone up. They have yet to catch onto the Espada, Jarama values.......but they will.

My last renewal notice from Heacock, underwritten by American Modern Insurance Group, for the same agreed upon value went up $0. When I increased the agreed upon value, as a % of the policy cost it went up almost linearly to the increase in value.

My initial research between Heacock & Hagerty resulted in Heacock being half the cost of Hagerty. Still curious if anyone has ever filed a claim with Heacock and had an issue.

I do love Heacock Classic.... I just tried to use their roadside assistance, and it was a useless vendor... I needed a 7 mile tow, and they only gave me one option... $250 bucks! (200 deductible)
    In southern NH
Just an fyi, maybe others use better towing (AAA was better btw)

Just want to clarify that I spoke with 2 people at Hagerty yesterday and that's what I have been told.

I, to, will be calling Heacock. But I just want to urge people that we should have the complete and best coverage we can on our cars. They have always been a special car and now they are even more precious.
