The last 2 RB's were very tricky to drive. Aero has been all Mercedes of late. Exceptional at most all circuits. No big name to attach that to at Mercedes. Mercedes is not only power or PU.
To that I would say that personally I can't see nothing wrong with "rich teams" outspending the less well funded. It's in the order of things, like a bigger country gets a economy, higher GDP, etc ...
What F1 needs is another Tyrrell that shakes things up because they don't have the money but they have the innovation and ideas. The other teams have no chance today.
No, they care about exciting racing--and it is the technology that has driven the excitement out of the racing ! My guess is that if we were still running the V10s, and nobody had figured out the aero like we have today--people would still be watching the exciting racing. It all depends of the racing, and not on the costs.....
Tyrrell was a one man-band, as only Jackie Stewart was really successful with that team - 3 titles, no less! Early on, Tyrrell was supported by Matra with their superior monocoque, and well financed by ELF. When Stewart, and ELF left (after Matra), Tyrrell went in the rank to be an ordinary team.
Or maybe another interesting character like Canadian entrepreneur Walter Wolf is needed. His team was meteoric in F1, winning the first GP they entered, plus 2 more during th first year. That did shock the established order a little bit, after which the team want into oblivion; Wolf lost interest and left.
Ferrari (or should we say FIAT) always tries to buy someone else's "star"...usually after their prime. They find it cheaper than doing their own heavy lifting, and then they can blame the "star" when the car sucks.
That's one of the rare analogies I can make between football and F1. Some teams groom their own staff and players, others just pick the best ones, often at huge cost.
Here are the F1 budgets for 2011. Only the top 3 are spending stupid money. I don't care if you think if I live in nostalgia or not. The reality is when teams physically can't spend the money on crazy aero, not nearly as much is needed to go racing. 19 races that season. So yes I do think I'm right if we get cheaper engines (I'm not going into the efficiency debate with you as it's utterly pointless), limit aero that spending will drop drastically, and yes a team can be run for 50 million excluding driver salaries. The top teams will certainly spend more than that in the beginning but it will level out. What do you think the majority of F1 followers want?
If I'm reading Wiliam's posts correctly apparently all people seem to care for is high tech stuff and complicated engines that no one understands.
I understand how those engines work including the MGUs..... I think you should change "no one" to "few"
I couldn't resist... Yes let's get another Canadian pay driver. 3 Canadians in F1 is unheard of! A smart beaver may out pace our current lineup!

Indeed. It will heal eventually but the skin will look like Lauda's skin on the skull. Not pretty, but hey. On the bright side he'll be racing the new Peugeot at Le Mans in 2022.
I hope he finds success. My interactions with him at multiple events has been very very nice. His father is fun to talk with as well.
He really is one of the nice guys. I've always been critical of his work when he's actually doing the driving, but a real nice guy he is.
HAAS to get Ferrari personnel from Maranello. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with Mick being there?
I have the feeling that Haas could become the Ferrari B team, rather than Sauber. There have been rumours that Alfa Romeo may leave F1 , and Sauber switch to Renault power in 2022. That could explain why Ferrari placed Mick Schumacher at Haas rather than at Hinwill, and the movement of staff too.
It was a slow decline but very true. Matra should have looked at a V-8 and tried to keep Tyrrell connection they both could have been way more successful. Ken Tyrrell was about as cheap as they come... but ran a good team. I think the loss of Stewart and Cevert at the same time was a huge blow.
