Anybody have any insider news with Haas and his affiliation with Ferrari? I heard if he gets his f1 license. He will more than likely buy a chassis and motor from Ferrari?

I believe that a team has to design and build its own chassis to enter F1; it is after all a CONSTRUCTOR championship. Buying an existing chassis is a NO NO.

F1 isn't the IRL where you can buy chassis off-the-shelces.
A Hass F1 entry should be designed in-house, even if Dallara build it.

The F1 Larousse team was thrown out years ago, because too much oif the intellectual property on his chassis came from Lola.

Haas seems very fast in 2018 says Wolff

Toto Wolff admits Haas may be 'best of the rest' in Melbourne.

It is clear that Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari will lead the way as the 2018 season begins.

But many think it will be the small Ferrari-linked Haas team in front of Renault and a densely packed midfield.

"From our statistical data they (Haas) seem very fast," Mercedes boss Wolff told Brazil's Globo.

"But if someone is 20kg lighter, the difference is eight tenths. I really hope they are there.

"Gene Haas is a real entrepreneur and has taken some risks, and Gunther Steiner is the crazy guy giving his all. He knows what he's doing," Wolff added.

Former F1 driver and GPDA president Alex Wurz agrees that Haas may be the fourth force in 2018.

"Based on the tests, it is Haas," he told Der Standard newspaper.

"Otherwise it would be Renault, because they are a factory team on the uptrend. But basically the midfield is almost too close together for predictions."

Is it remotely possible that Gene Haas' WIndshear facility might be doing some secret after-hours work?

As far as I know they haven't used Windshear for any F1 work.

Happy to have them both in Q3!!

Let's be straight..Haas isn't really a constructor. From Ferrari they purchase: suspension, gearbox, hydraulics, electronics. Grosjean said the suspension defines a lot of the air flow, and it also provides the basis for ride quality and stability of their aero platform, so some of the aero is purchased as well.

What no one can discredit them for is any success that comes their. They're maximizing the performance they get for the $$ spent as permitted within the rules. Force India, STR, etc can do the same. Which begs the question..why doesn't STR??

Magnussen bites back at Alonso's "Ferrari replica" jibe "He's annoyed that we're in front. This team is the smallest on the grid. And yet we've got the fourth best car on this track in qualifying." Autosport.

Yep. They normally do well in Australia too; qualified in the top ten 2014-2017.

Kravitz reports that the wheelguns were delivering torque but they don't know if it was enough. The traffic lights could also be an issue.

The @HaasF1Team is 'heartbroken' after a double DNF in the @ausgrandprix and has been slapped with a $10,000 fine to boot. Talk about kicking a team while they're down...
