I was wondering if anyone on this site has any experience in owning, or flying one of these two. I'm interested in getting one of them. I think the para glider would be a blast although extremley slow, the gyrocopter a little backyardish and maybe not the safest.
    What do you guys think?

Neither is a very safe way to fly, but I am assuming from the choices you are looking at some type of ultralight...

There is a saying... Three things that fall from the sky... bird $h17, parachutistis, and ultralights... None of them show any sign of life once they hit the ground....

The gyrocopter is obviously much faster and it flys like a real aircraft. The powered parachute is probably an inexpensive, fun way to get up a bit higher and get a nice view of the scenery, but it is so slow that it has got to be pretty boring after a while. Gyroplanes can take off in very short distances, and are pretty neat, but I am not sure if all of them are classified as "ultralights", although I would think that many are. With the lower pilot training/licensing requirements of ultralights, there is pretty good reason for the high accident rates, poor maintainence and other factors come into play also. The sky, like the ocean, is not a natural environment for man, and can be very unforgiving to an carelessness, incapacity or neglect... That said, you can get a lot of pleasure out of flying and live a long time doing it if you are careful.. Just be careful out there...
