    LA for now,NJ really
My very well known gym is double charging me monthly. Whoever signed me up (he no longer works for the gym) signed me up for 2 accounts. Anyways, I have been calling them monthly to get them to stop but they say the same thing, "we'll have someone call you back", they never do. I finally got angry and they connected me to the main accounts manager, he had the nerve to tell me that it was for my membership fee, I know this is a lie because my contract says no membership fee, plus my friend who signed up with me never got charged a membership fee. They finally agreed to refund me my money but because they made me mad I told them I wanted either a couple months free membership for all the months they double charged me or 20% interest on the double charged money. He refused. I launched an investigation with the Amex Centurion team who refunded me my money right away. Is this worth taking to court for the aggravation it has caused me to get the 20% plus the time I spent? URRGGGHHh this accounts guy was so smug he makes me see red I want to make sure this doesn't happen to someone else. What else can I do to make sure the accounts guy gets my message?

You know the same thing happened to me 10 years ago I could not get them to stop charging me twice. I cacelled the whole thing, they never gave me my money back. After repeted calls, I just droped it. Sometimes fighting is not worth it.

The sales people make commissions off new accounts so they knew they were leaving and figured they would double their commissions. Bastards! Good luck!

This is exactly why Bally's charges more if you insist on monthly mailed bills; so they can put you in their automatic overcharging program. ;)

After you quit, it will take another year long fight to get them to stop the monthy charges.

Avoid the hassle, pay the extra $$ and mail it in.

    Bally's are frauds, period.

Google around and you will find several class actions and government suits against them and their fraudulent billing and sham debt collection practices. I just wish I would have known before becoming a victim myself.

    Who's your gym?

If you're in LA, I've got a great membership at Gold's in Hollywood. They just upgraded all the equipment and the staff is excellent. I also got a yearly membership for my GF last year for $500 for the first two years (paid both upfront) and then she's locked into $200 a year if she wants to renew. It didn't take much bartering to get her those deals. Full access and free classes included.

IMO anytime you can get a membership for under $20 a month you’re doing well.

I'd gotten my membership there about three years ago during a "sign your friends and family up at your rate" promotion. Luckily my friend had worked there, so she'd gotten a smoking rate. They begrudgingly allowed me sign up with the same contract. $120 a year. :) They groan every time I pay my membership and SWEAR they'll never run that promotion again.

A judge is going to ask you where you could have earned a 20% return on your money for the time frame. Caulk it up to a learned experience. If you must give out a credit card for something like a gym, sign up for a card exclusively for purpose. I get ten credit card applications a week in the mail. Open yourself five or six accounts and keep the cars in your safe at home and do not use them for normal daily purposes. When you join a club, gym, whatever, bring one of the non-used cards to open the account.

The concept of double billing is the hope that your monthly statement is ten pages long and you miss the error. Some people use their credit card at McDonalds for a $2.43 purchase, so their statements must require several stamps.

If you have a Discover card that you only use for the gym account, you can simply not pay Discover and still have good credit with your daily use credit card.

Hey, now THAT'S using your head! I surely wouldn't have thought of that!
....and after all your whining, you suggest that others act as deadbeats? Who do you email at the collection agency to nag about the calls you get?

    What a surprising Discovery! ;)

Is that how simple it is? Do you have experience in this field of not paying your debts? I'm sure Discover would love to find out where you are.

You do understand that if you do not pay one card, that it effects your TOTAL credit history which will effect your "daily use card"

We are not discussing a legitimate charge, so paying Discover 50% of the bill and protesting the other 50% is not being a deadbeat. The time for a chargeback to occur is about 90 days. Your credit history will not receive a strike against it if you pay the legtimate half of the bill and you fight the other half. If you use your daily use card and have such a problem they could turn you off during resolution, thus hampering every aspect of your life. If Discover turns you off, your only downside is the gym and since you already paid double, you have no fears. I never suggested people stiff Discover out of legitimate charges, I simply showed a way to prevent such a problem from hampering your ability to purchase gasoline or groceries if you choose to do so via your daily use credit card. I highly doubt Discover will place you for collection either, since you are paying the part you agree is legtimate. It is much harder to get a refund from the gym than it is to just not pay that half of the invoice. If you feel better paying 100% of the bill and hoping for a satisfactory resolution later, all I can say is good luck with that. If you happen to come across the gym when they are about to file bankrupcy, you will never see the overcharges again. Double billing is a scheme to try to stay afloat when done on purpose, those ideas do not enter the mind of an honest business person making a good profit. In the end, you must do what you are comfortable with, I am more comfortable fighting the invoice and having the money in my account than trying to get my money back.

I think there was a special deal at Rick's Haus of Pizza. BTW, why does he have a GERMAN name on his pizza? Why not Casa di Pizza?

BTW, we got those massive chicken legs you recommended, although we ended up with the honey garlic instead... they are very good.

    Out of my mind
call a news station to send out a crew to come out and investgate a fraud. give them the name of the manager and watch how fast your billing gets cleared up once they see their gym smeared all over the news.

You are a wellspring of information. I'm facinated by your business concept...

    Are you from Nigeria?
