If I may be so bold, assuming my post was adequate (I know, no chassis description), then I can offer this racy number as the next GTC. I scanned the image this morning from a 1910 motoring journal. I did a quick google and only found one reference online. So I am hoping it lives up to the expectations of the "advanced" group. That, or it will be described in 5 minutes along with the driver's shoe size and social security number Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well done! I think that's probably as close as anyone's going to get. It's the Volkhart V1 Streamline Coupe, circa 1938-39. The rear-engined V1 was engineered by Kurt C. Volkhart (of rocket-powered car fame) and powered by a Ford Eifel 1172 side-valve engine. The streamline body was designed by Volkhart and König-Fachsenfeld, constructed by Dunker, and then modified by Wendler in 1941 to include that large rear fin.
Excelent choice! The driver is Hubert Latham, but I have neither his shoe size nor his social security number (he didn't have one). The car is La Coccinelle ("The Ladybug"), a special-bodied Grégoire commissioned by Latham. Here's another great pic of Latham and his bug: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Latham was very much into "aero". According to Wikipedia, Latham: - Became the first person to smoke a cigarette while piloting an airplane in May, 1909 - Became first person to attempt to cross the English Channel in an airplane on July 19, 1909 - Became the first person to successfully land an airplane on water on July 19, 1909 (following his failed attempt to cross the Channel) - Completed the first over-city flight in an airplane (Berlin) in October, 1909 - Set three world altitude records during 1909-10 (up to 4,541 ft in July, 1910) - Became the first pilot to hunt wild fowl from an airplane (killed two ducks with a shotgun while flying) in December, 1910 Here's the bug alongside one of Latham's more famous vehicles: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I thought it was interesting and obscure, so a perfect choice for this thread. Any guesses on the befinned beauty in post #29?
Front looks like a caricature of a Jag-u-ar. Henry N. Manney III would call it a "Lamp peddler's special", maybe. Rear like a Tatra sort of. Got nothing.
Spohn? so handsome. Spanish? or SA Really off game lately. Haven't even driven the new toy more than 4-5 miles.
The farmhouse in the background looks French or German. My first reaction was Horch 930S. But obviously not.
My exact thoughts yesterday. Had to browse through all Spohn files I could find, to no avail. But my eyes are still sore...
Incredibly handsome coachwork not by Spohn, but there's definitely a resemblance. Car is European, but not Spanish. Brand/marque is still in existence today, in some form or another. Rest up and take it easy! The new toy will be waiting for you.
Not it but closer. Ds or SW? Later than this. Sakhnoffsky? Spohn did one but earlier, not Jaray. Tjardda did very similar at Lincoln about same time. Image Unavailable, Please Login
SW. Not by Sakhnoffsky or Tjaarda. Somewhat successful German coachbuilder. Not all of his designs were this, uhm, "handsome".
