Was told it is a repro.

Anyone knows more about it? Who did it?

    Dear Andrew,

It is simply 4243 GT that I had sold in 2016 to a French collector.

Today this car is with another collector in France.

Based on a 250 GTE 4243 GT ex David Piper.

Reconstruction by Mario Allegretti and David Piper in 1977, with parts of real GTO, mechanical parts ...

Certainly, I think David Piper was the first to launch this mode of reconstruction the 250 GTO, I do not know any other before.

Note the plate of the chassis taken over by Mario Allegretti which certifies that it is really an Allegretti.

Finally, it has a peculiarity is that the front Borrani rims are engraved Piper.

    Best,

    Cyrille

To have it try on open road, I can tell you that it works wonderfully !

    It's my photos...

Was this car ever displayed at the Mougins museum? I saw a similar one there in 1998.

For a poorly rebodied 250 GTE? You must be kidding.

That's an easy one! That's a very poor repro btw. Not one single angle is convincing. Why doing all this work, for something that looks like a GTO (from far...)? What's the point?

Thank you to Dave and Marcel for the chassis number and color!

However the utter simplicity; look at that front grill opening shape plus those headlight covers and no rear spoiler!) of the original. All of which seems to have been lost in some re-creation of a race spec incarnation to impress the judges. Evidently that idea worked...

Hm - but Michael Fisher has various photos his 4243GT (registered "100 EPW") in the mid 80's, still as a 250 GTE!?

In the 80s it as still been a 250 GTE, owned by Michael Fisher, registered "100 EPW":

In July 1984 dropped off by Mr. Fisher at Mario Allegretti's, in Modena, where it was then rebodied as GTO, assisted by David Piper.
After completion, it eventually was traded to Bernard Duc (CH), someone who Mr. Fischer had business dealings with.

FYI Bernard Duc is/was French, not Swiss.

Thanks. FWIW, Michael said that it was sold to his associate Bernad Duc "in Switzerland" (verbatim) - but I suppose he could have been a French citizen.
