RIP Hans Mezger. The legendary Porsche engineer headed up Porsche’s return to Formula 1 with McLaren. He designed and developed the 1.5-litre V6 TAG-branded Porsche engine that would power Niki Lauda and Alain Prost to 25 grand prix victories and three straight F1 world championships from 1984 - 86. Meanwhile, Mezger’s original 911 engine continued to evolve and, in water-cooled form, found homes in the back of 996 and 997 series 911s, the last car to carry the legendary powerplant was 2011’s 911 GT3 RS 4.0, thought by many to be the legacy of his greatest work. Image Unavailable, Please Login My 991.1. I just added Salter Aero taller wing uprights, dot 2 wing endplates, dot 2 side skirts, side muffler delete and a BBi cage. Trying to figure out which (Hans) seats to put in.
Joe - a question. I have had a couple of Metzger engined 911s and the engines were great. But, hand on heart, I couldn't bet that I could blind tell that the 991.2 GT3 RS engine, or even the 991.2 TT engine, were not Metzgers. Do you think the non Metzger engines lost anything? Or did they just build on the legacy, and how?
I have to defer to those with experience with the 991.2 cars, this thread was started to focus on the 997 GT3 RS which is where my experience lies.
Just put a Dundon crack pipe on mine. OEM headers & cats but nothing else. The answer is yes. Need ear plugs under the helmet. Sounds killer on the track.
