Can anyone recommend some great twisty driving roads near Orange County? I'm planning on doing a bit of driving after C+C on Saturday morning and was hoping for a bit more twists and turns than the 5 offers.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Seems to me that in "Master Planned Orange County", there aren't a lot of twisty roads.

+2 on Santiago Canyon Road (if re-opened since the fires) or Ortega Highway (watch out for patrols.) Once you take Ortega over to the Lake Elsinore side, there are plenty of twisty "B" roads, and there's Temecula's wineries as well. Otherwise, there's Carbon Canyon (from Lambert, off the 57) that will take you to Chino, or if you head south, there's Palomar Mountain road (but that's really far south.)

Starting from the Dove Canyon & Coto De Caza area:

I would say go Live Oak Canyon to Cooks Corner

    up Modjeska Canyon Rd

go up to Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary and look around a bit

then continue through Santiago Canyon, turn up Silverado Canyon and/or Blackstar Canyon

From there, you could go back through Santiago Canyon where you came from or continue down it to the 241

IMO, Ortega Highway (74) is completely unsafe. Perhaps at the right hours it's alright, but is extremely narrow and people LOVE to pass in the double yellows.

If you want a decent "to the floor" moment, starting from where Antonio intersects Ortega Highway:

    Go up to the dump

Go up Antonio until it hits Covenant Hills in Ladera Ranch. This stretch is WIDE OPEN and I never see cops. Plus, it's uphill, so the F will have to work overtime...you get the noise, but the speed does not come as quickly.

    For more speed:

Irvine Blvd between Bake Pkwy and the 133

Sand Canyon between the 5 and Portola Parkway

Portola Parkway between the 133 and Jamboree

Additionally, if you go the 241 between Oso Parkway and Antonio, it is the most wide open stretch in existence!!!
