I had a 2003 coupe cambiocorsa for approx 10k miles and got rid of it becaue it had a host of mechanical and electrical problems. I heard from the dealer that the next guy had an electrical fire within 1K miles of purchase that the dealer had to fix. I moved on to 911.....but it isn't the same.
I'm now looking at a 2005 Gransport with 1800 miles on it. Gorgeous car, but afraid to get bitten again.
Does anyone have any insight into this predicament. It will be my sole daily driver, and I log about 15-20K miles/year. I'm also about 1 hr from local dealer, so repair time would be a huge hassle.
Can't help but love the cars though. Life is too short to not drive Italian.

I have a customer named Carl that you may want to speak with. He had a 2004 Maserati Spyder CC that ended up being a lemon car. It spent over 1/2 the time at the dealer. He was able to get Maserati to buy the 04 back. He then got a Gransport and he absolutely loves it. Shoot me a PM or email and I'll give Carl your information and try to put you two in touch.

Sounds like you two are in a very similair situation.

I have had two Maserati's. The first was a 2003 Spyder and I currently have a 2005 Gransport. I have not had a single problem with either car. The only trip I have made to the dealer was to have the oil changed. I would highly recommend a Gransport. It is a fantastic car for the money.

I'm on my third Maser; had a 3200GT, 2003 4200 Spyder CC and now have a 2005 GranSport.

    * 3200GT; oval clock light flickered and replaced under guarantee, engine cover open shown at high speeds(!); sensor was mounted wrong, fixed.
    * Spyder; only issues were bad radio reception and crappy/slow navsat and the cd-changer would crash.
    * GranSport; floppy right paddle (see www.************.com), Britelite textile not good over passenger airbag replaced under guarantee.

    So basically nothing...

Worf, how does your 911 compare to the Maserati. I am considering buying a Maserati and I have a friend who is trying to talk me out of it. He has owned all types of 911s for decades. He swearers the Maserati doesn't hold a candle to the 911 in terms of performance and he thinks I will be disappointed with the car. He says the Maserati flexes too much. I really like the Maserati but he has scared me off the car.

The two cars are worlds apart.
I have owned several 911s, the most memorable being the 2004 40th Anniver Ed.

The 911 is a sportscar in the truest sense. It feels light, quick, "bouncy" (for lack of a better term). The 911 feels liek a go kart, and bring an instant smile to your face when driving.

The Maserati experience starts about 30 ft away. When walking up to the car it exudes a graceful class, beautiful lines that makes me smile before I have opened the door. Sit down inside and the smell of the leather permeates you, prepares you. Fire up the engine, for me all the more special since I had a Tubi on it (wife would say the house would hum from the sound!). Before driving away it is a whole different feel than the 911....as if it is truly something rare and thus special. The driving dynamic is a GT not a sportscar. It turns in as fast as the 911, but is more "long-legged" and graceful in the driving characteristic. It is better for cruising, but when you open it up it would launch. Parenthitically I have an '05 Jaguar XJR and it is just as afast as either car, but again a totally different driving experience.

Having owned 4 911s (993, 996s) I would take the Maserati and day of the week. Sure the Porsche has better build quality and better longevity, but you never know when that ache in you belly is going to turn out to be pancreatic cancer, so while living (assuming your are a true car afficionado) go Italian without a doubt....at least once in your life. A purchase like this isn't mad with the head, don't listen to reasoned arguments, drive them both and chose based upon emotion only!

    Ciao and Auf Weidersen........
