For those who have not experienced Grand Seiko, you are missing out. These are not your father’s Seiko watches. Grand Seiko epitomizes haute horlogerie and each of their watches from the zaratsu mirror polishing, to their renowned and innovative spring drive and hi beat movements, to their dials which are simply works of art, are truly marvels of the watch making world. Grand Seiko is not Seiko. They are remarkable timepieces and in November 2021, their most recent release, the Grand Seiko SLGH005 “White Birch” inspired by the aspen trees near their manufacture in Japan actually won the Best Men’s Watch of the Year prize at the Grand Prix de Horology de Geneve (GPHG) to upset the entire Swiss watch industry, beating out the best of the best. I currently own two Grand Seikos and plan to add more to my collection. Seeing the photos do not do them any justice, they must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. If you live near a Grand Seiko boutique, it is worth a visit.

Almost bought a Grand Seiko Chrono 2 years ago in HI. Just could not pay retail for it. Getting lucky enough to pay retail at a Rolex AD, no problem. But hard to on Omega, Tag, GS, etc. Lots of other lux brands are also AD retail worthy, but hard to walk out in the hole on a GS…. Just my thoughts, but I do love the Chrono version.

When you factor in the hand craftsmanship of the GS - these other machine produced watches don't compare!!! Then throw in GS accuracy and you are getting a lot of watch for your money - no question !!!

They are great watches! I have a couple of them, but went the quartz route. Next up is a Spring Drive. Don't forget King Seiko. They are making a comeback and I have a few of them, as well.

Grand Seiko is another level and incomparable in quality to Omega, Tag, and other similar low tier brands.

Too fat too thick, too heavy, GS sport watches in summary.. reminds me of Nissan GTR… vs Ferrari or a Porsche .

They are beautiful and underrated. I'm going to get the new chrono next week.

This is the one I currently own. Pictures do not do it justice.

My SBGH281 “Superman” has some of the finest craftsmanship I’ve ever seen. I’m actually selling it now if anyone is interested. Making room for a full Seasons collection.

I have mad respect for Grand Seiko. It's one of those brands highly revered within a small subgroup of true watch
    connoisseurs.

I’m looking for a GS spec’ed as follows:

GMT (some of the following might be standard)
24 hour indexes on the dial, not on the bezel
stainless steel or GS’s proprietary steel
    Lume
    Date
    Bracelet
    Silver, white or creme dial
    Full set if possible

I prefer new but I didn’t see anything similar in the current catalog. Aside from the obvious sources (Chrono 24, etc) are there any dealers specializing in GS?

    Thanks.

@Gle8 ‘s post #7 above appears to be something like I have in mind.

Very nice. Are the tops of the hour indices lumed or is that a light reflection off of the facets?

They are lumed, as are the bodies of the hands and the arrow tip of the GMT hand.

The titanium makes it a light, easy to wear, everyday watch, too. I’m never going back to SS again.

I have the Rikka and really enjoy wearing it. Its comfortable and the gold indices give it just enough to differentiate it from my other watches. Image Unavailable, Please Login
