I have wrapped up the manual conversion in CS and absolutely LOVE it. Everything is all adjusted good, including the cables. I have unfortunately also learned that my 2nd gear and 3rd gear syncros are toast unless I perfectly rev match. I knew this might end up rearing it's ugly head after this conversion, and it looks like my fears were confirmed. (I received the car after it had been driven with about 1/2 quart of black tar oil in the transmission 1,000 miles or more by the previous owner.)

All good. I am keeping the car, so I will just get it fixed. I have played with different fluids and some make it actually MUCH better, and once fully warmed up it is about 90% fine, so I am going to take a much needed break from working on the car and just enjoy it for the next few years as it. Hopefully I can put this off until my next major service.

Anyways, when the time comes, where is the "best" shop to mail the transmission to? Or the several "best" places to mail the transmission to? It may need sycros only, or it may need gears or other parts as well due to this cars bad transmission history before I took possession of it. Not afraid to spend money and make it right when the time comes. if driven right after that, it should last a very very long time.

    Thanks for any help!

Following. Don't feel I need a rebuild but if you find a place that fixes the wonky 2nd gear that seems to be on every car, I'm up for the update.

Generalizing of course, but there seem to be never ending threads going back generations of cars about a 2nd gear that doesn't quite feel right. Or at least as not as smooth as the rest. Especially when cold.

There are a number of people around doing a good job on them and a lot who are not. Considering where you are I would get in touch with Softwaredrone and ask him. He found a shop in the California foothills he was very pleased with and gave him a very fair price on some repairs. I'd offer but I'm tied up for a year or so.

Brian, from your years of experience, is 2nd gear always going to have a "detent" sort of feel where it never really falls in perfectly smoothly even after it's warm or is that something that can be tuned/repaired out of it?

I have never heard that complaint. I have to assume something is wrong.

Thank you. Honestly, a year or more wait is fine with me. I want to drive and enjoy this car for a year or so before I do this anyways.

I can only assume yours is bad as well. Even my second gears falls in like butter 3/4 of the time when even shifting fast when it’s warm. It’s the other 1/4 that is not so great. And then when cold, it is………….

Same. It's not really all the time, but enough where it detracts from the experience. Maybe we can get a two for one deal somewhere :D

I think the shop @SoftwareDrone recommended is in the valley somewhere? http://www.scuderiatransmissionrepair.com/

Also, @Jimmysmith, any update on your adventure? https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/transmission-rebuild-shops.668525/

Don't let the unfinished website fool you. Carl Ryalls (owner of Scuderia Transmission Repair) has rebuilt literally hundreds of 360 and 430 transmissions (including mine). Just give him a call (1-209-810-6501). He's very nice and loves to talk about these things. If he thinks that there are some things you can try to solve your transmission problems without a rebuild, he is more than happy to suggest those things.

I’ve seen more than a few transmissions in pieces being rebuilt by Tavis in Las Vegas. Factory trained Ferrari tech for a very long time with Ferrari Las Vegas, now at O’Gara McLaren Las Vegas. Another option if any of the others fall through.
