BG44 or Chevron you mentioned ..BG is more for once in a while to address maybe some dirt whereas Chevron more of maintenance

I feel if you use top tier gas like Shell etc and use the car often .. no need for any additives

I figured. I always use good gas too, and drive every day almost, but I guess it’s just practice I’ve been doing for 21 years of driving. Plus it sat so much before I got it. Thanks again. I just put a bottle of the Chevron Techron in the tank and filled her up.

I use the redline injector cleaner. Every oil change for all my cars and 2x a year for the 360.

I have just recently had to replace the coolant pipes on my Cayenne (2006, 114k miles) and am in the process of replacing a rear seal on my Spyder(1989, 50k miles). In both cases, the valves look immaculate! I typically buy Costco (a Top Tier fuel) premium. These valve "cleaner" additives seem like a complete waste of money after what I have seen. Modern fuel-injected engines are so clean.

Almost impossible to get a good picture of them, but you can see where the spray hits the ports and all is clean (Cayenne).

FYI: There was a class action suite on those pipes, they were plastic and the replacements are metal. You may be able to get some money back, not sure how the whole thing works as I replaced my wife's Cayenne before the class action was settled and my repair was done under warranty.

I rather run some race gas a gal here or there makes me feel better then a bottle of snake oil that you put in a gas tank

For clarity, while there are certainly "snake oil" oil additives, there aren't really "snake oil" fuel cleaners (unless they are making some crazy claim, like it will fix a failed engine, which I've never seen in a fuel additive claim). Probably all of the quality fuel cleaners can clean the fuel system. The only question is whether a given fuel system needs it given that quality ("Top Tier" rated) fuels already contain fuel system cleaning additives. Of course, adding a quality cleaner to gas will have a much higher concentration than the additives in the Top Tier Fuel alone, so they certainly can clean better than Top Tier fuel alone.

My experience is that I've always run top tier premium fuel in all of my cars, and I've still found that fuel cleaners like Techron or SeaFoam (added to gas, not sucking it into the engine) do help the car run better. Costco has Techron 6-packs reasonably priced, so I give out bottles to others in the family to run once a year or so and I've always heard positive comments back. Quality fuel cleaners are not "snake oil", the only question is whether your car actually need additional cleaning. Used once a year (the tankful before an oil change is a good time to use them), I think most will find some benefit, with virtually zero risk of harm when used as directed.

It's a different story regarding oil additives, where they can be "snake oil" either intentionally (e.g. Slick 50) or unintentionally (where the additive has ingredients that can be beneficial in the abstract, but that might screw up the balance of the additives in the oil you happen to be using). Oil additives stay in the oil until the next oil change, so if a particular oil additive makes the oil you happen to use less effective, there can be some degree of increased wear over the 3k/5k/10k miles between oil changes.

I feel a full tank of 100 unleaded will maximize more then a bottle of cleaner

Octane has nothing to do with cleaning the fuel system. Higher octane only means that the fuel is more difficult to ignite than a low octane fuel. Whether a given 100 octane fuel cleans better or worse than normal Top Tier gas will depend on what additives are in that individual fuel. Race fuels/oils often don’t include the additives that are needed for long-term/daily use, but whether a given 100 octane fuel cleans will depend on how that specific fuel was formulated.

Thanks for all the information everyone. I will use the Techron bottle every 6 months just cause it can’t hurt and does clean injectors at a minimum. Would love to get some race gas too! Haha. Thanks again.

What’s the benefit or disadvantage of getting the Techron “complete fuel system cleaner” over the “fuel injector cleaner”? The complete fuel system cleaner is a few bucks more but is it as good for fuel injectors?

I had a 360 engine in the shop that lost a rod bearing at 120,000 miles. It was a daily driver and always used top tier gas. I used its injectors for diagnostic purposes. He had never used fuel additives. We tested them and after 120,000 daily miles they worked perfectly.

Use good gas. Dont let the car sit.

Real race gas and race oil has no detergents.

I agree with you. However, I am not the first owner and I don’t know what kind of gas the previous owner used. I don’t let my cars sit either, partly because the rain and snow don’t bother me and neither do miles. I get it detailed professionally after and no salt sits.
In any case, I want to run a cleaner through to just get anything off that may be built up

anyone know what they use at the Ferrari dealership? I was looking through an old service record and along with my annual service there was a line item for: Fuel Injector Flush Kit: $190.01 and Fuel System Treatment: $38.33
