    I've just been informed that I get to fly to Austin tomorrow to play golf in a "4 Man Shamble" with a large client. I know what a Scramble is, but what the heck is a Shamble?

    Never heard of it. I was going to say they probably meant Scramble.

    Definition: A shamble is a type of golf tournament that combines elements of a scramble with elements of stroke play.

    Like in a scramble, all members of a team (usually four) tee off and the best ball of the four tee shots is selected. All players move their balls to the spot of the best ball. From this point, the hole is played out at stroke play, with all members of the team playing their own ball into the hole.

    So: select the best shot off the tee, move all balls to that spot, then play individual stroke play until each member of the group has holed out.

    Shamble tournaments are also known as "brambles." Shambles should be played with full handicaps to make sure weaker players contribute to the team score. (Scoring, as with scrambles, can be done any number of ways, such as using one low ball per hole as the team score, or using two or three low balls per hole. Shamble scoring is only limited by the tournament director's imagination.)

    Scramble = best ball, all the way.

    Shamble
    On each hole, only the second shot, from the best positioned/distance Tee shot out of a foursome's drives is played by all 4.
    Then, they each play their own ball.

    Each:
    Par = Point
    Birdie = 2 Points
    Eagle = 3 Points
    Double Eagle = 4 Points

    Scores are tallied, handicaps factored in, to level the playing field for each player.

    It all ends in a shamble on the 19th hole.

    Hah! Timely question...I just played in a corporate shamble in Dallas a few weeks back..must be a Texas thing. I hadn't heard of it either.

    The previous posters nailed the definition. We played so that each team collected the 2 best of the 4 scores each hole. Front nine was great, but my team fell apart on the back...might have something to do with alcohol. :)

    Ah, what the hell.
