Just how fast are the GSXR1000s??
Fast enough to kill you if you don't respect it by asking that question. Most bikes go 150+ if you go that fast on a bike, you have some BIG rocks... in your head.
If you want fast, try the new Kawasaki ZX10R. 160+ horsepower, 186 mph top speed, sub 10 sec quarter mile, and around 40 mpg for only a bit over $10,000. Sweet.
I think that is at the crank. Motorcyclist and Sportrider magazines both showed 163 and 164 hp respectively. Motorcyclist magazine said that one quarter mile attempt with the Kawi had the bike flying through the traps with the front wheel off the ground. With that kind of horsepower and 80 ft lbs of torque, drag racing is a bit hard
An awsome all round machine. Its a very fast and stable bike. They are very popular here in the uk along with R1s, and to an extent the Fire blade. Gixer 1000, i rate them.
There is a definate pecking order for sportbikes and the Japanese liter bikes definately over shadow the 996 for pure power (if thats how you define the hierarchy.)
Like me. Because im in the process of getting my M class driver license, but I would get killed on one of those things. I was also looking at the GSXR750.
The prob with these liter bikes for someone with only a little or moderate experience isn't the speed, its the explosive suddenness of the acceleration. The prob comes with any thing but REALLY well controlled right wrist movement (hold the jokes) will produce wheelies or at least lighten the front end and then steering is not possible. Add THAT at the apex of a curve (because your buddies just left you, because they have more controllable 600s), and suddenly you are running wide, and your eyes get wide and your sphincter gets tight, and man, I'm going to run off the road! So on the brakes you go and straight up the bike goes and even wider you go! You try to steer but can't because the bike it upright and you can't let go of the brakes! You are in the gravel, looking at the trees...F*ck!
Michael, you seem to be familiar witht nuances of riding a bike. Skizo. Take my advice. I own a top motorcycle dealership. Don't buy a GSXR anything for your first bike. If you want to bump up the learning curve, get an old bike. Learn how to ride it. Put 3000 miles on it. Jump on whatever you want after that, because even though you won't really be ready, you'll be just ready enough.
My dad has a few old Hondas and im going to learn on those. Well one is a '86 600. Its falling apart from sitting because he doesnt ride it, so I will. Thanks Ryan.
Thats just fine with me. I don't need a GSXR 1000 or a ZX-10. Any bike that is still on the rear wheel going thru the traps would scare the living sh*t out of me and I'm not afraid to admit it.
