    Hi gang.

Tripped over this today in an otherwise nondescript watch repair shop down here.

    So, I have questions:

    1. Real? how would one tell.
    2. Value without box or papers.
    3. Value with box and papers.
    4. Anyone here want one? Assuming it's real, and can be had for the right price??

    Thanks guys,

Oh c'mon. 36 views and not a single opinion?

They're on Ebay for anywhere from about $2500-5000.00, pretty sure this one could be had for maybe $3K. Just not sure that's a good, bad or average deal.

I DON'T want this watch. I don't wear $3K watches, but I can grab it for a fellow fchatter if someone is interested. And my curiosity was peaked. It's in a shop full of $50-100 used watches, sitting in the middle of the showcase.

Interestingly, the tag they have under it is taken directly from a current Ebay ad for another one just like it in Michigan.

Anyone know how many were made?

I've consigned a few and found these smaller faced watches are all but impossible to sell. Seems trends are for larger faces. I recently sold 2 and highest I got was $2,500 with other less than $2,000.

    Thanks Ron,

that was kind of my suspicion, although it's a good looking watch, good brand, etc., it's not a really biiiiig watch, and that does seem to be the trend.

Although at $2K, it would be tempting.

Dave , at 2k that's all the money. These are notoriously not an easy watch to resell. That's my 2 cents.

    hmmm...

Currently sitting in their display case at about $3800 I think.

Older couple running the store, doubt they're looking to move it with a 50% discount.

However, Charlotte County Florida is not exactly a hotbed of high end watch buyers.

A GP like that is worth 15-1800 bucks.

The GPs don't retain high values, generally, which is a disappointment. It may be due to the fact that they introduced so many models in such a short amount of time. That said, there are also fakes to be wary of. Honestly, I don't know that I could tell the difference by just looking at them, though. I have purchased a few GPs on-line over the years, and, without taking them in for service, I would not have been able to verify their authenticity. Depending on the materials used, one test would be to weigh the watch. Gold cases ought to be of the correct weight. A fake likely won't use the real material. That said, many GP cases are in other materials like stainless or titanium.

I like GPs, but I always feel like I'm taking a risk when I pull the trigger on a used one that I don't know the provenance on. You might ask the seller to guarantee that it's a GP. Let them figure out how to do it. Watches without boxes and papers are probably worth less than half, to me, of ones with both.
