Ask the association what makes them think they're gay, as opposed to two roomies. Have they been peeking in the windows?
(Isn't it against CA law to even ask such questions on a rental application?)

It would be SOOOO illegal if sexual orientation was even a wispy fleeting hint of a factor in denying housing.


Besides, in general, I've found homosexual couples are more responsible, pay their bills better and are better educated than all you straight,....I mean...US straight folks.

Last time I checked, being gay wasn't a protected class, so I don't think discriminating against them would be illegal.

That said, I don't see on what basis your association could harass you. If they pay the bills on time and don't trash the place, I'd be happy if I was in your shoes.

 

Hand them the business card of your lawyer, and inform them that anything that they do concerning yourself and "The Association" will be handled via your legal counsel.

Sure, it's pricey up front, but consider it a different type of insurance.

Mow the lawns, patch the pipes, whatever.

If they want to read you the riot act, let them read it to your lawyer first. A good paper trail is your best friend.

well homsoexuality is wrong, but there's nothing wrong with renting out to them. All you care about is there money. However, if you start loosing tenents because of them, it was a bad buisness decission period.
If I was you I'ld let them stay as long as they pay on time. Don't think you could really kick them out anyways.

I absolutely hate f***ing associations like these. If they're pissed at you, ask them to show you the written bylaw in their association's rulebook banning gay/lesbian tenants. That should shut them the hell up. Apparently not all Californians are liberal. I'm sure this thread will take on a life of debating homosexuality, but you've done the right thing, and I wouldn't be surprised if the other tenants ended up liking the lesbian couple once they decide to actually meet them and judge them for who they are, rather than by the fears and prejudices they maintain from small-mindedness.

I would much rather have gays for neighbours than hate-filled bigots.

 

This association sounds like its filled with a bunch of idiots. And if any of your other tenants complain, than maybe you don't want those kind of people supporting your business.

In reality as long as they pay the bills and don't bother anybody who cares what they do in private.
