Can anyone tell me if the F1 gear display window actually does anything in a manual 360? It just sits there black - looking like it really should not be there. I'm really surprised Ferrari didn't make the rev counter sticker actually cover it if it doesn't do anything?

Stays black. Trust me you forget all about it once you start driving. ;)

We have a gear display window?? To be honest, I've never even noticed.

If it's not the same window that shows some letters when you are sideways, I haven't noticed either...

It stays off. My guess is that it was easier/more cost effective to have one dash for both 3 pedal and paddle cars.

I have a manual 360 and it stays black...
I recently drove a cheap rental (japanese) and even though it was a manual, it had a gear indicator on the dashboard. Very Gran Turismo !! LOL
If a cheap Japanese manufacturer (I think it was a cheap Nissan Micra 1.2) can do it, I'm sure Ferrari should have / could have / would have engineered it !! Maybe a retrofit ?

Interestingly, if you push the button on the left below the suspension firmness selector switch the outside temperature is displayed in that space. Often, I'll push the button so the temperature is shown. The temperature will be displayed until I turn the car off.

That's the multifunction display window on the lower right. The OP is talking about the gear indicator display window which is in the upper center. It stays blank in 6MT cars.

Thanks guys - when I picked up the manual the other day (I swapped my F1 car for it) I actually thought that someone had put an F1 console in there because the manual one had broken!!

Really surprised - it looks weird when you are used to an F1 showing the gear there!

I don't think that's the gear selector window. That is the window that shows when the ASR is off and such (or when it's activated like what Nathan said). Admittedly, I would have to go back and look but I'm pretty sure that's what that is.

I had to look at my own pictures to see but you guys are right. It's just a blank, now if someone could design a radar detector gizmo that could illuminate that panel we might have something, maybe it could count down from 6-1 as you approach officer friendly? Or just a flashing X?

Ha, Ha proving yet once again, give the left foot a rest and go with the F1 gearbox! And be amazed at seeing which gear you are in proudly displayed on your dash.

First thing I noticed after going from a F1 car to manual. Stupid little window is blank. Great idea to have a radar detector wired to it though.

The guy who converted his 360 from an F1 to a 6MT had an issue with this display. After the shifter conversion, his display showed N continuously, regardless of the gear selected. At some point he was considering engineering a solution to allow the display of the actual gear number, but in the end I believe he gave up and shipped his instrument cluster to some outfit in California, who were able to turn the N off through firmware.

My Audi A5 manual also has a gear indicator in the dashboard...along with a recommendation for what gear it thinks you should be in. Germans......

To see what the F1 system is doing you can install these gauges. One for pump pressure and one for the F1 relay and ECU.

These were installed on my 360 by the previous owner. He wanted to know how long the F1 pump was in operation, and at what pressure (although I am not certain the pressure gauge is calibrated).

Just pulled into garage on this pic. You can see the info screen showing outside temp. The odo just hit 25k. The gas tank is full.

The F1 gear screen is black.... You can barely see it and only if you're looking for it.

In all honesty it's invisible to me as I'm looking at RPMs and my right hand is on the shifter and left foot is on the clutch.

You feel with your hand and ears where you need to be gear-wise so you don't need the screen to tell you what gear you're in.

One of the many joys of driving the 3-pedal.

I think we need to make a small cavallino logo to stick on that tiny black frame;)

Ryan you are correct. Having never owned an F1 I did not notice the blank window the OP was referring to, Lol. I think I've driven an F1 only once or twice. As others have said. My eyes are way to busy to be concerned with that small space. As far as not knowing what gear you are in. I can't remember a time that that has happened. Does that really happen to some people who drive F1's?

I didn't notice it, but it seems funny that in the US version it says UNLEADED FUEL ONLY, as opposed to European version that says nothing below the gas bars... Probably due to US regulation, because I doubt any Ferrari owner would try leaded gas or petrol !!!! Hahaha

It bugged me on my manual F430. I thought it was really cheap of Ferrari not to cover it.
